sandra endo looks at the community college crunch. >> at montgomery college in maryland, this is a summer hot spot. >> we filled every seat. >> community colleges have long been a money saving option. >> i have been here for two years now and i'm transferring to catholic university in the fall. >> the economic downturn put a spotlight on two-year institutions like montgomery college, which added nearly 50 course sections to its summer schedule to meet demand. at northern virginia community college, enrollment crept up 80% since the recession began. >> we are witnessing a tsunami of students that are clambering to get into the community college. >> now a perfect summer storm, more students home for the summer from four year colleges accelerating course loads to save tuition. >> plus a tight job market sending more workers into classrooms. >> there are those that still have their jobs, but are seeking to skill up, hoping that by having the newest and latest skills, they will be more competitive. >> and no immunity from the economic downturn. >> it is key to keep the college open for everyon
