. >>> this sunday will mark the second anniversary of the horrendous shootings at sandy hook elementarylives of 20 children and six teachers. schools have seen an average of one shooting per week since then. chris murphy joining me now from capitol hill. the senator who has done so much to assuage the gun violence since. thank you very much. what can you and others from connecticut and elsewhere around the country, gabby giffords and her group, we have yet to see any real federal legislation. >> in connecticut a lot of our effort is still on trying to help sandy hook heal. they are going through the process. we have been delivering them with as much resources as we can. looking more globally and nationally, we have to learn from the gun lobby. we lost a year and a half ago because they spent two decades building a political infrastructure around their cause. that means racking up small wins which we are doing passing gun lawses in connecticut and colorado getting a referendum passed. we have to understand that in order to get a bill passed here in washington, we have to build a movement

as we're rebuilding after sandy, for example, we're having to consider how do we increase preparedness, and how we structure, infrastructure, hou housing and so foster along the jersey shore, those are costs that i can impose, and you can put a dollar figure on it. in terms of process, you have a nebraska judge determining whether or not the new path for this pipeline is appropriate. once that is resolved, then the state department will have all the information it needs to make its decision. but i've just tried to give this perspective, because i think that there has been this tendoncy to really hype this thing as some magic formula, and to what ails the u.s. economy, and it's hard to see where they're getting that information from. in terms of oil prices and how it impacts the decision, i think that it won't have a significant impact. except in the minds of folks when gas prices were lower than were less susceptible to the answer of lowering gas prices. but it's not the answer because the oil piped through the pipeline would go out in the world market. >> is this something where you'r
