and in the case of adam lanza in sandy hook and salvador ronald's in uvalde they not only commit suicide than other not coming out of this alive. they take innocent lives with them. so access to mental health support is absolutely c critica. so too is the investment in our schools. this includes everything from physically hardening school buildings to training personnel to more effective violence prevention efforts. we know in uvalde the door had a lock on it but it didn't work. allowing the shooter easy access to this elementary school. all of our students, all deserve to feel safe in their schools. and no parent should send their child to school worried that they may not come home. they deserve to know their child will be safe at school. and the peace of mind that goes along with that. that is why i think these resources for additional school hardening of that soft target is very important. the final portion provides targeted reports to keep "guns out" of the hands of individuals who already by law should not have s guns to begin with. our proposal includes resources for states to impl

that sandy hook we now know sandy hook was not a one off. we have seen parkland. we have seen uvalde. we now -- >> columbine. >> we know this is not happening once every ten years. we shouldn't be acceptable. it's happening once every ten hours. every ten days. we were still burying the victims of buffalo when uvalde happened. and i say thank you to matthew for using his platform. nobody can accuse him of grand standing. he's walked those streets. this is a little town of 15,000 people. he knows that park. he knows that plaza dh is now filled with little crosses. and he's using his platform so we can be talking about it and realize your children are not safe, your children are not safe. your child is not safe. and my husband's grandchildren are not safe. >> there's so many mothers, i think about -- you drop your kids off at school. we had to do that after uvalde, that's the kind of like visceral, deep reaction that i think people are having the country is having. the question for these -- >> it's so true. you said that, i had panic attack. >> i got chills. >> her

chicago and joined the fbi as an agent i was working national security matters but then after the sandy hook shooting, agents and agents in thes fbi said you are doing this now and i said okay. so iom guess i'm like maybe thee are some peoplee that are listening to this now. i was tagged with having a joint white house team and then vice president biden's team department of education, health and human services, allr the others. my job was to stop the shootings that were going on and truthfully i think what happened quicklyre. what can law enforcement to do to helphe and we were focused as the only justice department and law enforcement agency on the team thinking about law enforcement and so i spent nearlyg five years of the fbi t thinking how can the fbi help law enforcement to do a better job when it comes to preventing or responding or recovering from these kind of situations. but what i learned as i got further along is that there are hundreds of millions of people in the unitedd states and a million law enforcement officers are not going to solve this problem so i think as i go to

it's been years since handed sandy hook, congressman has fought multiple times on gun control. while there is some sense that this time could be different, it is worth remembering, quite how many times congress has tried pass legislation on this. and failed. but alone in the environment that we are in now, and let me just jump >> and let me just jump and >> nicolas democrats are talking to cautiously optimistic. they are not the big question mark. what are republicans saying? >> it's kind of a big -- among republicans right. now we have some, as you have seen in this bipartisan senate group that are engaging, and that are really willing to have this what's possible. at the same time you still have to consider the fact that any piece of legislation right will lead to a least ten republican senators to get on board to get past the filibuster. and so far, republicans have held their fire on how they want to go about this. leader mcconnell had blast these gun control talks among the bipartisan group of senators. it all comes down to what their final product, and what they recommend
