we had our own sandyhook in britain in the mid ' 90s. 16 five-year-old children gunned to death by aic. it was never made right. everyone came together and said we have to do something. we did do dramatic stuff related to gun control. i don't get why it's so politically divided here. why, if you're pro-gun, you have to be a republican. if you're pro-gun control or gun safety, you have to be a democrat. >> you can look around the world and you'll find actually, by enlarge, the people that tend to be for tough gun control measures, in countries like australia, tend to be conservatives. they're the people who listen to police chiefs, worried about law&order, feel like it's important for streets to be safe, for cities to be safe. those positions have traditionally been associated with conservativism. america has this unique thought of wild west culture and the right to bear arms. the practical reality here is that england and wales have a 3% rate homicide compared to the united states. that means their rate is 3% of ours. our rate of homicide is 12 times that of the industrialized world
