nbc's ron mott joins us live in sanford, florida, with more. >> reporter: good morning to you. it's day two of the state of florida versus george zimmerman. if day one is any indication, this is going to be a pretty long process. over the course of about three hours, lawyers for the state and for george zimmerman questioned four potential jurors. that's just four. that's an average of 1 every 45 minutes. as you know, 500 prospective jurors are in this pool. this process could take a while, which is why it could take three weeks to get this jury. we expect the judge to resume a hearing which is crucial because she's going to make a determination about whether audio experts and their testimony about that 911 call will be allowed in court. we do expect that tape to be played but whether the experts can weigh in on what they hear or what they may not hear is still yet to be decided by this judge. >> ron mott in sanford, florida. george zimmerman has sued nbc universal, the parent company of this network, for defamation. the company strongly denies his allegations. >>> now for a loo

martin savidge is at the courthouse in sanford, florida. so martin, you actually got a chance to talk to one of the defense attorneys who says is he very specific about the kind of juror he is looking for. >> reporter: right. mark o'mara. i said are you ready? it all begins of course tomorrow. he said, well, they have to be ready, they will be ready. jury selection, as we know, is crucial in any trial. it is going to be even more so probably in this trial. the defense and the prosecution are probably likely looking for two different types of jurors. but i did ask mark o'mara what would be the kind of jurors he wants. here's the response. >> i want open minds. people who have not made up their minds, and people who are strong enough to decide the case on the facts and the law and not on external public pressure. my concern about this whole case all along has been we have so much pressure on the case, on the system, that any verdict, whatever it might be, might not be accepted as the proper one even if it is. >> reporter: as it stands right n

kerry sanders joins me live from sanford, florida. good to see you you.he jury selection phase? 1234r well, it's a process. what they are doing is they have selected 28 potential jurors. they're trying to get a pool of 40 potential jurors so they can whittle that group down to six actual jurors and then some alternates. >> let's talk about the screening process. so far how tough has it been to avoid bringing in potential jurors with already formed opinions? >> that really is the problem because of the high profile nature of this case with george zimmerman who admits he shot and killed trayvon martin was claims it was self-defense. he has been charged with second-degree murder here. there were 500 jury summons sent out. 200 told to report to the courthouse. they stag erred that. they had to fill out a multipage questionnaire. when they answered the question, some of them, after they went through them, automatically disqualified them based on their answers. there were those not automatically disqualified brought into the courtroom here one at a time and ask

our martin savage is in sanford, florida, where the trial will take place. what is the expectation tomorrow, the sequence of events? >> reporter: well, i mean, the expectation's huge, certainly, by those following the story and following it very, very closely. but here's what we expect to happen tomorrow morning. first thing 9:00 everyone goes in to the courtroom and even though the trial began with jury selection, it is the opening statements that in the minds of many people signals the start of the real trial here. the first thing, though, people listening for, any last-minute motions, this is the final moment before it all really begins where the defense or the prosecution could raise an issue to the judge saying, wait a minute, judge. before we start, there's this. assuming there isn't anything like that, they go in to the opening statements and the state goes first making the presentation of why they believe it's george zimmerman to profile trayvon martin walking through the neighborhood and then confronted, shot and killed him. the defense will go next

>> joining me right now from sanford, florida, greg melvin. explain how different we're seeing the testimony today, day two from the star witness for the prosecution? >> reporter: yeah, you know, thomas her demeanor in court has been different to say the least. i spent some time talking to jeantel's attorney yesterday before her testimony and he said that she was a reluctant witness. she demonstrated yesterday that she was very much so a reluctant witness. yesterday we saw a lot of back and forth between her and don west the defense attorney. we've not seen as much of that today. it seems as if she's going out of her way to be respectful to say yes, sir and no, sir. yesterday she was on the stand for about two hours in the afternoon under cross, close to two hours. she's been on the stand this morning since just after 9:00. we are right now, looks like we're about to start back again. there was about a 20-minute recess. but we expect that she's going to be on the stand for a while longer, for cross-examination. we also expect there will be at

sanford, florida. we'rie going to continue keep a eye on the courtroom. was it a strategy by the state to put a witness on the stand who bolsters the defense's argument? >> well, i don't think that they wanted that to happen but i think that's what did happen. look, when you're in a courtroom, you kind of know what the other side is going to do, so i'm sure the prosecutor knew if i don't call john good, they're going to call john good so i might as well do it myself and get out in front of it. the problem is whether you compare john good to other witnesses that we've heard this week, this is the end of the first week, the girl friend rachel, for example, compare their demeanor and it's all about who the jury believes and who they think is trustworthy. when i watched john good testify today, he wasn't on either side. he wasn't on trayvon martin's side and he wasn't on george zimmerman's side but what he said i thought was much more compelling for the defense case, even though he was a prosecution witness. >> interesting. john good worded his answers very c

martin savage, thanks so much in sanford, florida.ttorney mo ivory is host of her radio show here in atlanta. the mo ivory show. carrie hackett is a criminal defense attorney. good to see both of you ladies again. it was a riveting week of testimony. i don't think anyone expected really the potpourri of witnesses, you know, styles and and testimony that were received. carrie, as we head in to the next week, what do you suppose jurors are mulling over this weekend? >> well, i think jurors are thinking about an inconsistencies and a december crepe pansies of various witnesses' testimony because really none of these witnesses actually saw the altercation from the beginning to the end. so during the course of this testimony this week, we have had snippets of, well, i heard this, i saw the men on the ground, you saw them engaged in an altercation. we haven't heard any testimony about from witnesses who saw what led up to that altercation. i think that's a point that both the prosecution and the defense are really going to have to deal with
