sanjay gupta is live with a lot more. good morning to you.earing ads all over the place of nurses and doctors talking about the efficacy and safety of covid vaccines for children. so for parents who say i am going to get it, they should be able to get it easily. what's happening? >> yeah, i mean, there are a few things going on here. keep in mind, this is the first year the federal government has not handled the rollout. there have been problems in the past to be fair. you don't have sort of a national strategy here. it's a patchwork strategy. also, when the public health emergency ended may, several things ended alongside that, including the ability for pharmacies to give these shots to people as young as 3 years old. that was part of the public health emergency. so it makes it more challenging. you have to go to the pediatrician's office, make the payments, sometimes they don't have the shots. there is also an increased demand. in the past, there hasn't been a huge up take for the shots especially in young children. between june and septemb

i've also been speaking to professor sanjay agrawal who's chair of the royal college of physicians tobacco�*s smoking crackdown. i think it is a landmark announcement and if we can follow in the footsteps of new zealand in the steps they have taken, it is to be congratulated. preventing young people from taking up smoking is the single most important thing we can do and this announcement will support that. but in addition, we have 6.5 million smokers in the uk and helping them to quit smoking is also really important, so the measures to increase the funding to local government stop smoking services is also really welcome. the entire package is an era defining set of measures that will allow the uk to be much more responsible for its public health and to prevent harm to the youngest and most vulnerable people in society. i really welcome this announcement. now it's time for a look at the weather with carol. hello again. for many of us, it's been a pretty wet start to the day. some heavy rain has been sweeping in from the west, pushing eastwards and it's also rather breezy as well. further s

meteorologist sanjay patel is here with the forecast sandy. >> yeah, dan, and we had a double digit droptemperatures for inland areas today. forget about 80s and 90s from the weekend. >> we had 60s and 70 and some showers. let's take a look at a live picture right now from our sfo camera. and here's a look at the rainfall so far. the north bay got some of the higher totals. rio a quarter of an inch, two hundredths in santa rosa, 13 hundredths in mill valley. you'll notice, though, some showers have made it all the way into half moon bay, 100th of an inch, even into the east bay. orinda in moraga measuring 12 hundredths of an inch. other areas have had trace amounts, so just enough to dampen the ground but not measure from napa to sfo, oakland, hayward, concord. it has been one of those days where you need the wipers off and on. here's a look at the live doppler seven right now. and although you're not seeing any moisture up above, there is moisture down below the radar beam. we're seeing some wet roadways out there due to some drizzle as well. the cold front that came through today has p
