sanjay gupta. great to see you. so, when you look at that. they look so good in that video.ed for such an extended period of time. any way to even measure the amount of trauma that they're going to have to recover from. >> i think it's very hard and init's interesting, so little data on this thing. not a lot of cases like this to study. but, first of all, so much of the attention is on recovering people who missing rather than helping them recover afterwards. most time the data looks at family members or someone that they knew who actually abducted them as opposed to a total stranger here. so, it's very hard to say what the recovery is going to be like. you know, for example, one of the largest studies in which people are only abducted for three months compared to ten years, a quarter of them dedevelop significant problem with drug use. 40% had diagnosis ptsd. i was surprised the number wasn't higher, actually. totally different scenario here. the organization called take root. one of the few organizations in the country. everyone is going to be so different here. >> the per

sanjay gupta. talk to dr. sanjay >> now, a couple of things i want to point out of t. for a long time, people have been taking the omega 3, for their cholesterol, there are questions on how much of a benefit it provides. but what the study was looking at, a relatively small study, looking at several hundred people who didn't have prostate cancer, comparing them to people who had prostate cancer and finding out what was different in regard to the omega 3 fatty acids. let's talk about it, there was a low grade risk of prostate cancer in the men who had the most omega 3 fatty acids in their blood, there was a 43% risk of prostate cancer, overall. the surprising thing for a lot of people, it made no sense to idea why omega 3 fatty acids may be causing this. we know that they typically reduce inflammation in the body and the blood and it should reduce the risk of prostate cancer. and the other point, wolf, very important, there is no cause and effect relationship here. it is unclear to say that people w

sanjay gupta is back with us.him, the source of the mysterious stomach bug in 15 states. and a new recommendation on how frequently to screen lung cancer in long-term smokers. first up, great to have you, always a pleasure to see you on "new day," you know that, my brother. what do we need to know about the stomach bug that's spreading more quickly than we thought? >> first of all, give it a name, cyclosporiasis is the name. it's not a bacteria, it's not a virus, this is a parasite. as you mentioned, 353 people have been sickened. that's it, by the way, the pesky bugger causes the type of symptoms we don't talk about much on morning television, but the g.i. sort of stuff. usually a miserable day for people, but there have been 21 people hospitalized, as well. >> where's it coming from? >> they don't know yet. that's a little bit surprising, because we're talking about now since mid-june this has been going on. it's hard to figure this stuff out, basically asking people what they ate in the last few days, few weeks
