sanjay gupta joins us. so what is your reaction when you see this hits sanjay?'s brutal. i mean, it's just i think for anybody it looks brutal. i think for a neurosurgeon myself, it's particularly horrifying if we can show that again, that you showed some of this already and i just want to point out a couple of things. when you actually see what happens to, to this is just normal speed what? we'll saw, but this is slowing it down. now watch as he lowers his shoulder and the amount of force you can actually see his head and his cervical spine who top of his mind actually sort of be pushed back as a result of that. and then after that, there's a significant rotation as well to his neck then he falls to the ground we subsequently learned that it was on the ground for a couple of minutes. but look what happens with his right hand over here, anderson that's called a fencing position fencing position like that. and that's something that's involuntary. it's a reflex that occurs and it's happening because of this injury to the area between the brain and the spinal cord

sanjay gupta sanjay, of course, people look at farms, football career. they're going to look at his diagnosis. they're going to wonder if there's a connection yeah. >> and i think there's been plenty of studies that have been done now on this. and i think it's fair to say that there is a link here and i'm being careful in how i describe this because people often think there's a cause and effect relationship. x number of blows to the head, the effect is parkinson's disease. i don't think we can say that at this point. there are plenty of people who played football that don't develop this. plenty of people who developed parkinson's disease who've never played football. so you gotta be careful. but if you look at the data and there was a study that came out of boston university. they were some of the ones that really drew this link between concussions and something known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy. what they found was about a 61% the increase likelihood that people would report parkinson's symptoms if they played tackle football. and there was a hi

sanjay gupta is on call to help us break down exactly how concerned we should all be good morning to you. >> i hate mosquitoes. i'm just going to tell you that right now. how widespread though are these diseases? because we're hearing now a lot of different people getting getting hit with whether it's west nile or tripoli or dengue yeah yeah. i feel bad for that gentleman that we just heard heard from his sister-in-law. that is a rare situation. thankfully, though i'm going to show you these maps here to give you an idea of just how widespread this is. but as you look at this, keep in mind that most people are not going to develop symptoms these are cases that are actually being reported. so many of the cases are not being reported because people aren't developing significant symptoms, but you can see the darker the color, the more west nile around the country. texas, the northeast. that's where you're seeing a lot of these cases primarily when it comes to triple e. the other one that you mentioned you got six cases in five states right now. so that is much more rare. again, keeping

sanjay gupta, to help break, to help us break down exactly how concerned we all need to be sanjay how widespread, first of all, are these diseases, right now. >> so let me give you a snapshot of the united states. we can, we can put up the map of what's happening with west nile. and as you, as you look at this map, keep in mind that august and september are sort of peak mosquito season. so we're in the thick of it right now. but what we can see if we have that map of west nile is is that two, there's 289 cases roughly in 33 states, sort of interesting wolf, it's sort of spread around the countries texas, california, but also quite a bit as you see there in the northeast and michigan that area so you're seeing quite, quite a few cases right now. again this month, the end of this month is when we'll probably start you see those numbers start to come down eastern equine that's much rarer. we have six cases in five states, right now. again, it's the same thing because they're both mosquito-borne illnesses. this is the time of those cases will be up i will point out wolf that when it comes
