also looking at the heavier cells down by santa barbara north of los angeles. so they are still looking at the bulk of the activity while we are high and dry. another half inch of rain possible for los angeles, a quarter of an inch for santa barbara and even san diego looking at some rain. so hopefully beneficial rain, but can't rule out maybe some downpours in those burn scar areas. so watching that closely and also looking at that ominous sky from mount tam. temperatures all in the upper elevations in the 30s. so very cold, but at the surface in the 40s here. and you can see the clouds from the shark tank in the south bay. 51 in santa rosa. it's been sunnier. they're clear, i should say, but we are looking at those gusty offshore winds, anywhere from 20 to 30 miles an hour. this morning we'll get into a partly cloudy sky, breezy and cool conditions for the bulk of the day today. this week we have a freeze watch each and every morning right through thursday for some potentially very cold conditions, dropping off to around freezing or below, and then by the end

all these areas from san diego up to portions of santa barbara county, are under a red flag fire warning, and that is in place until 6 p.m. wednesday. here's a closer look at the area here and this area, showing you a pds, a particularly dangerous situation. and that's basically focusing on the weather tomorrow morning into early tomorrow afternoon. so all these areas here, this is actually excluding the palisades fire zone, but still in general high fire danger for tonight into tomorrow. here is the forecast model. this is tomorrow morning 7:00. and those contours here link up to the stronger wind speeds. so you can see la only three miles an hour. compare that to the malibu hills 24 and camarillo 29 miles an hour. the winds stick around. this is late tomorrow morning and then into the afternoon hours. we will gradually scale back on the wind speeds, especially late tomorrow afternoon and into tomorrow night. and finally an improvement with the weather conditions in southern california. no rain, but at least we're not talking about any strong winds. highs today in the 60s. across the bo

you see, this is the map showing the red flag warning from essentially santa barbara down to san diego. and you can look at these red flag warnings. some of them extend offshe to catalina island. but you see the magnitude of these winds from la all the way out to las vegas under a high wind warning from the same pattern setting up when that is being enhanced by the incredible dry start we've seen to winter. in terms of that fire danger there in southern california. and i know we're facing a wind event here in the bay area. just thankfully with all the rain and moisture, we don't have that fire danger to worry about. great point on the fuel moistures here. we have had benefited from that rain not seeing red flag warnings here. we do have wind advisories but not high wind, the magnitude much stronger to the south, and red flag warnings from santa barbara down to the mountains east of san diego. hydroclimate whiplash when we start dropping that in conversation. there you go, rob. thank you very much. with just a few days left in his presidency, president biden announces a new ban on coast

so you can see from santa barbara stretching all the way south toward the mexican border. that is a concern. so that is one concern. another concern, as we just mentioned, was mudslides. so there 2 major hazards after this kind of a fire in one of them is flooding. another one is a bit debris flow. and of course, a problem with the flooding is because when soil was burned, it's unlike normal soil is kind of spongy. it can often absorb lots of moisture and the plants help do that. alot of plants now are burned away and that burned soil is really hard is like concrete. and so it repels water just the way a raincoat might repel water. so we not only have a concern about the continued santa ana winds. we have concerned that when we do get rain and we want little bit of rain to help fight the fire right? you want moisture in the a little bit of rain. we go a long way, but we don't want a lot of rain. even moderate rain is enough to create problems. so right now we see high pressure continuing in control. no rain in sight until we go into not this weekend. but next weekend we st

national weather service says strong santa ana winds will pick up starting tomorrow in parts of santa barbara, los angeles and ventura counties. those gusts forecasted to be up to 90 miles an hour and may last for a few days. now, by this time of the year, fire danger in southern california is usually winding down, but the area hasn't had measurable rainfall in several months, so that combination of high wind and very dry conditions means extreme fire danger. tonight, at least six bay area cal fire engines headed to the south to help be part of strike teams that will be ready to react if a wildfire does indeed start. okay. joining me now is brant pascua. he's a cal fire battalion chief who's down in southern california right now. thank you for being with me. so tell me a little bit me a little bit more about these conditions. now, how unusual is it that you're caught like this? i mean, fire season now seems to go year round. and how bad are you expecting it to o get?ight. you're you're absolutely correct. fire season is year round. it's a fire year. so down in southern california we get these

it's also a red flag warning for santa barbara county. so it's a real concern as high pressure is over the great basin. the low pressure over southern california. the pressure gradient tightens up and that is a real problem. also, there's a lot of upper winds support. so this is not good. the weather is not helping out with this fire situation for us. we have a wind advisory. it's across the bay area and that is in effect until wednesday morning. tomorrow morning. and there is beach hazard to if you head to the beach highways, 20 foot, breaking waves are possible and that that hazard continues through tonight at 9 o'clock. and then the see start to settle down. there's a risk of sneaker currents and also strong rip currents. dry weather, though, for this week. and next, our winds really peak just after midnight or so. and then tomorrow morning when the sun rises will be back toward normal winds, not nearly as impressive to see sunrise happens in 7.30, or so. >> and you see these winds really died down for us. so that is great news for us

for most of los angeles and ventura counties, and for parts of san luis obispo and santa barbara counties. you see the alignment here with the circulation around that low pressure system literally pulling the winds from land to sea, offshore flow, which is the pattern that has held for several days now for about a week. in fact, right now we have gusts up to 35mph at camp nine, nearly 45mph at browns canyon. these wind gusts are irregular, though. i mean, they could be 15mph. one moment and the minute later 25 or 30mph. so the wind gusts, as you see going into the evening hours will diminish a bit. the red flag warning likely to expire at 6 p.m. and then going into the overnight hours, the winds remain still fairly strong, but not so gusty and so dangerous as they have been. this red flag warning once again in effect until 6 p.m. for this area shown here in red. particularly dangerous fire weather situation. relative humidity still dangerously low, about 8 to 15mph. now let's shift our focus here to the bay area. locally, we're looking at very calm conditions. wind speeds under ten miles
