and we're joined by santa clara county's newest supervisor, who just made history. we'll explain why. good evening, i'm raj mathai. a lot happening on this tuesday. let's start with the new details in that deadly crash in piedmont. we are hearing from one of the friends of those college students who was killed just before thanksgiving. this all happened around 3 a.m. last wednesday. that tesla cybertruck carrying four people crashed and caught fire. the victims were all home for thanksgiving. sorin dixon, jack nelson and krista sakahara were all killed. 20 year old jordan miller was injured. all four graduated recently from piedmont high school. sorin dixon was a student athlete at usc and a member of the lambda chi alpha fraternity. friends remembering him at a gathering on greek row, finding groups to go off campus, go to the beach and go surfing or go rock climbing. he was always trying to find other people who liked the same stuff. he did. police say speed was a factor in this crash, but say it's too early to know whether the cybertruck malfunctioned. the initia

now today we learn the santa clara county district attorney's office has charged muller for two other cases dating back to 2009. prosecutors say he broke into the homes of women in mountain view and palo alto, then medicated and sexually assaulted them. the d.a.'s office used forensic dna testing to charge muller. he appeared in court in san jose this afternoon. >> a strap from the palo alto case we analyzed in 2010, but dna technology has gotten significantly better since 2010. so recently we've been able to find the defendant's dna on that strap. >> muller will be back in court january 17th for a plea hearing. >>> now to oakland where city leaders are marking what they call the safest year since the start of the pandemic. police say homicides are down 34% and car thefts have dropped by a third compared to last year. at a press conference this morning city leaders credited partnerships like operation ceasefire and help from the chp for making that happen. >> these reductions represent a historical decrease of over 30%, including a 45-day stretch late last year without a single murder

and looking down at the santa clara valley from the black mountain.peratures holding on to 56 degrees in oakland. otherwise we're starting to cool off and 47 degrees in livermore with temperatures not warming up a whole lot today, where that fog is stubborn. that will be the case again as we head through the rest of tonight. we don't have them in yet, but we'll likely get one of those issued for parts of the bay area. they would usually drop those before the 11:00 news time, a scramble to get on air. we'll keep them updated for at least a part of the bay area and this forecast model will keep the most dense fog out of the santa clara valley, which means they'll warm up efficiently, while the fog will hang on. and that warm up will be more limited. temperatures only in the mid to upper 50s near 60 degrees. and contrast that with the santa clara valley. we'll warm up into the upper 60s. so a bit of variety tomorrow and friday and on average, we will be kind of leveling off. which is above normal for this time of the year and that fog keeping temperature
