nbc bay area was the first to tell you about the santa clara county hospital that's way behind schedule. county blames turner construction for delaying the $300 million project. we have new details now. tonight, santa clara county is expected to decide whether or not to keep turner on that project. it was supposed to be right at 6:30. we're the first with an exclusive tour inside the hospital which is supposed to open in a few weeks. the hospital, though, nowhere close to being done. nbc bay area's robert honda joins us live in san jose. robert, that deadline is supposed to be right now at 6:30. what's happening? >> reporter: well, jessica, turner construction did make a proposal to try to stay on the job, but we have learned it was rejected. so now, turner must accept a new deal with new terms from the county by tuesday, or be fired. work continues today on the santa clara valley medical center's new 168-bed hospital facility, though no one knows how long turner construction will be on the job. the new building was supposed to open september 19th, and house vmc's rehab unit, as well as

nearly 6:00. >>> another inmate has died in a santa clara county jail cell.terday. kpix 5's kiet do is in san jose with more on the new case and on developments in an alleged fatal beating by deputies. >> reporter: good morning, that inmate died here at the jail sometime around 11:00 yesterday morning. but it took some time for the sheriff to make it public. we did not know about it until ten hours after the fact. now a jail guard found that inmate unconscious in his cell and tried to perform cpr and first aid. paramedics also tried to bring him back but he was pronounced dead after half an hour. the sheriff detective the da's office and coroner are all investigating. standard procedure. that name is not being released until the family is notified. this is the third inmate to die in custody since august. other big news two of the three deputies accused of murder last month are now out on bail. jereh lubrin and rafael rodriguez each posted the bail. the remaining guard matthew farris has a court hearing today to use property to cover the bail in lieu of cash.

the three deputies were the only ones on duty when he died and are held in jail out of santa clara countyeduled outside of the main jail in santa clara county today in profit of you have -- if protest of guard lie lens. >> now a driver is speeding down the freeway at over 100 miles per hour. this is southbound 101. the driver is trying to get around from the sheriff deputies. the woman behind the wheel took several exits off-and-on the freeway. she finally hit the median of 101 two miles mouth of the sonoma and marin county line. she was ordered out of the vehicle with agains drawn. this is no word on why she ran from police. >> sacramento city college had a shoot that last a student dead and another person seriously injured. police are looking for the hand who open fire on two men in a campus parking lot yesterday. the students and staff were told to take over. >> they told us to go to admission reports and we could look but did not tell us what was going. we sat there for up to an hour and we were just stuck. >> investigators think the shooting may have been promised by a dispute. >> a

more inmates coming forward with allegations of the santa clara county jail after three deputies were charged with murder in an inmate's death. an attorney representing one of those inmates spoke with abc7 news reporter melanie woodrow today. >> reporter: we reported another inmate being treated for a broken jaw blamed it on two correctional deputies. one was accused of killing michael tryee. the attorney says he was beaten owe badly he couldn't see who was beating him. >> they're beating hip, they say if you want to stop, you have to say i am a [ bleep ]. >> powell is representing reuben garcia. he says two correctional deputies beat him up in july. he was in an interview room. he complained. >> reporter: powell says this is not what garcia looked like directly after the beating. these photos were taken after his recent jaw surgery. he had a gash, black eye and broken jaw. >> it wasn't discovered until it manifested in what appeared to be an abscessed tooth. >> reporter: a spokesperson told abc7 news garcia got injured during a fight with another inmate. powell says garcia told them

now again, today's ceremony was for santa clara, santa cruz and san mateo counties but the theme of today's ceremony and the message seemed geared to the beating death here in santa clara county's main jail. ♪ >> reporter: the 30 santa clara county cadets was the largest group at today's correctional academy graduation and the situations at their jail seemed to set the tone for today's ceremony. >> why is mental illness such a challenge? >> reporter: judge steven manley focused on the need for more training, though he didn't mention it specifically, the theme resonated around the beating death of michael tyree, allegedly by three correctional officers now facing murder charges. >> the stigma exists that the mentally ill do not have equal value with other individuals in the criminal justice system. >> reporter: as we showed judge manley and his mental health courtroom is part of 40 hours of training for santa clara county cadets. the sheriff acknowledge it was the result of the tyree murder. >> these are skills, learned skills. most people don't have a fundamental knowledge how to deal with
