work goes on for santa clara county firefighters who were not deployed to the clayton fire in lake county. several crews helped put out a small kitchen fire in los altos this morning. they'll be working extra hours in the bay area because last night two strike teams from santa clara county were sent to help. a total of 44 firefighters and 12 vehicles from san jose, sunnyvale, mountainview, palo alto, morgan hill and santa clara county fire are in lake county. they plan on being up there for two weeks. >> we've been called in to supplement the forest agencies a lot more in the last few years than we ever had historically in the past. >> reporter: the teams have water power, 1500 gpm or gallons per minute, can be pumped out. crews from daly city, san francisco, marin county and the woodside fire protection district were also sent to the front line. this has been a busy month. many just home from fighting a fire in monterey county. >> two or three weeks ago we're down at the incident and our engine was down there. it seems to be that type of of typical california summer where at any given da

santa clara county court workers and the court go back to the bargaining table. if everything goes well, the strike on day 7, could end. it was more than a week ago that nearly 400 santa clara county workers walked off the job. they went on strike. they said they haven't had a raise in nearly a decade. that strike had a huge impact on court services. we saw judges doing their own paperwork, clerks offices were closed and search and arrest warrants were backlogged. but the workers said they hope that that message was loud and clear to the court that they deserve more pay. >> when it comes right down to it, you cannot expect them to survive in the most expensive place in the united states. to keep up at least a second year raise would give them an opportunity for health benefits and spend more time with their families. >> reporter: so the court was offering them two 5% raise this is six months. the court workers want a third raise after not getting a pay raise for nearly a decade. we heard some court workers have been working more than one jobs, some losing homes. s

. >> reporter: santa clara county sheriff's deputies arrested matthew zabala tuesday charging him with child abuse and domestic violence. investigators say the crimes happened as recently as sunday when a 6-week-old girl was brought into valley medical center in critical condition. detectives went to zabala's home in the 50th block of boston in an unincorporated area of the county. he was arrested and charged. the sergeant says the girl had broken bones in 14 different locations over her body and a skull fracture. >> it's a horrific crime because you have a 6-week-old victim. she can't call 911 or tell you what's hurting. it's just horrible. this victim can't defend herself whatsoever, can't even feed herself. >> they're just a puddle of muscles and bones and really not able to do too many things, maybe lift their head. >> reporter: san jose pediatrician dr. albert shin says the prognosis for recovery is unclear considering the amount of internal damage that may have been done. >> i probably would worry about the nervous system plus back of the eye, retina, places like that because to

a decision may come as soon as today on whether to move the sierra lamar murder case out of santa clara county to find impartial jurors. more than four years ago her body has never been found. a defense expert testified yesterday that more than 82% of possible jury members in santa clara county and 100 percent of perspective jurors in the south county area know about this case. he recommended moving the trial out of st. clair county. the court is considering options including bringing jurors in from other areas. >>> meantime, a san francisco jury convicted a man on first degree murder and other charges in the deadly shooting of a woman outside a number three yores ago. the jury deliberated less than a week in the trial of green of san mateo. police say he shot and killed a woman in a parking lot near 6th and jesse streets in november 2013. investigators say it was an apparent dispute over a traffic crash. lawrence's friend was shot and injured and green was arrested in florida six months later. >>> the mayor pleaded not guilty to charges he played strip poker with teenagers at his summer camp.
