so when we talk about santa clarita, and i know most people have never heard of santa clarita, we're a very big city. now, the good news is we still think we're a small town and we act like a small town. and that means we support one another. we have a great community. we have great support. we have right now, 4000 plus firefighters fighting the fires we have. on top of that, we have a huge number of deputies and first responders working with us. we the fire, as you as you mentioned, is now approximately over 10,000 acres. there's 0% containment at this time. uh, the winds are blowing 30, 50mph. and this evening they threatened to. and overnight, they threatened to be even more than that. so we're very concerned about the winds. we're concerned about embers. you know, embers can travel. they can travel a mile and sometimes up to two miles. so we're very concerned about that. and uh, and we're also in a valley and in a valley. the winds swirl. so just because you're safe right now doesn't mean you're going to be safe an hour from now. and the last thing i want to say before before i t

this is in castaic right near santa clarita. so just to give you an idea that perspective wise, also right near magic mountain, six flags to kind of place it on the map for you. notice the wind speeds right now from the north northeast at about 19mph. you might be thinking, well, that's not as gusty as what we've seen play out before. however, look at this humidity level here. we're talking less than 10% 6% humidity. so it i very dry. and all of that vegetation can quickly ignite, which we have seen unfortunately play out time and time again. temperature wis. we're still above average in the 70s, but i think the biggest factor here that will play out will be just how dry it is. i also want to talk about that red flag warning, because it was extended for all of the areas that you see highlighted in this red until thursday now. so again, all of these areas that includes parts of san bernardino stretching into parts of la as well, and even down through san diego, we're now seeing these red flag conditions, at least that red flag wa

it's burning north of santa clarita in castaic. you can see the flames glowing here right behind me. interstate five at the grapevine is slowly reopening after the chp shut down the freeway for a couple hours as a precaution. let's take a live look. now, this is called the hughes fire. it sparked this morning around 10:30 a.m. it quickly grew to more than 9000 acres. this is a live look from one of our nbc choppers down south. this is near magic mountain, and so far there is zero containment. more than 31,000 people have been evacuated. that includes schools and even a nearby jail. the good news right now, though, no homes are threatened, but teams are making sure everyone stays clear of this burn zone. more than 4000 firefighters are right now on the fire lines. this area is under a red flag warning, meaning high winds are fanning these flames. it's a newer incident and it's evolving. it's going to change. we're ready for just about anything, which, by the way, includes being prepared for any other incident that would break, god f

it's about ten miles from magic mountain theme park near santa clarita. and you can see the glaze, the just the blaze there and the glow of the night sky down in southern california, about 31,000 people are under evacuation orders. this fire has nearly tripled in size in just the last four hours. look at this just from a couple of hours ago. and then just now, in nightfall, you can see the flames there. more than 9400 acres, almost 10,000 acres. it is 0% contained at this hour. now, all of this unfolding as los angeles county still works to recover from the deadly palisades village and eaton fires. now there's the potential of rain, creating another risk mudslides. floods. crews are now putting extra hours in to clear fallen trees and branches in neighborhoods that didn't go up in flames. you are looking at us from pasadena, adjacent to altadena, where the eaton fire burned. officials say the windstorm that sparked the fire blew up a year's worth of green waste overnight. it just seems never ending here. as the cleanup begins and continues, several busine

you saw the lake in the photo earlier in the video, not far from santa clarita. so it is north of both the eaton and palisades fires. now let's take a live look at the fire. information is coming in minute by minute. just in the last half hour, the five there freeway there, interstate five shut down there due to the rapidly spreading flames. a total of 35,000 people are in mandatory or warning evacuation zones, and that includes several schools in and around castaic. there is now a triple wildfire threat in l.a. county. here is the latest on the two other major wildfires burning there since january 7th. the largest is the palisades fire, at nearly 23,500 acres. that is 36mi■!s. t is now 69% contained. the eaton wildfire has grown to just more than 14,000 acres, with 91% containment. cal fire reports 28 deaths from both of those fires. those fires have prompted new demands for an investigation into the emergency alert system, abc news reporter zohreen shah tells us there are questions on whether faster action could have saved lives. >> today, questions about wheth

santa clarita. we're going to see the winds kind of whipping as we head throughout the evening hours to the temperatures or with that downslope wind. that is more of a northeasterly wind as that air sinks. it dries out and look at the humidity, very dry conditions there. boy, just about bone dry to start to look at some single digits. santa clarita down to 5 a percent. so extremely dry out there right now. and those conditions playing out again throughout the night tonight. more gusty winds expected overnight tonight. red flag warnings, of course, posted. and so that fire weather warning continuing until thursday at 8 o'clock at night. so one of these fires that get going during this period can do the same. they can run fairly rapidly with those dry conditions outside and continue to see those gusty winds. in the meantime, though, yeah, the humidity, it has really been an issue that things below 15%. that's kind of the bumper where you start to really worry about how fast these fires can explode. yo

also, the hurst fire, which is about 500 acres that burned near sylmar, south of newhall and santa claritaaccording to clarita, according to the chp, the 210 freeway is now shut down between roxford street and the i-5 freeway. the fourth fire, which is a which just started recently. it's called the woodley fire. it is 75 acres. it's an area nearby van nuys near interstate 405 and highway 101. a portion of the 405 southbound lanes near that junction are closed right now because of the fire. and just a warning, these numbers could jump significantly later today because there is no air assault of the fires, it's very difficult to know how big they are right now, so just be prepared for that later this morning and into the afternoon. >> now turning now to news closer to home, as the city of san jose prepares to open its largest rv safe parking location next month, it's beginning an rv and living vehicle tow away program. now, the goal is to clean up areas around schools and waterways, but not everyone supports it. starting this week, the city will begin putting up signs along chenowith avenue,

these hills just north of santa clarita. we're also hearing there are about 20,000 people under evacuation warnings right now. they're very concerned about which way this fire is going to spread. there are a lot of very densely populated neighborhoods near this. the other information we just got from the california highway patrol is that the 5 freeway is now closed between one 26 freeway and grapevine road and the on and off-ramps have also been closed. they want people to avoid this area. but there are a lot of people that are now stuck on the 5 because the smoke is also impacting this. and how since they've had to close at people who are on the road didn't really have somewhere to go at the moment. so that's some of the information we're getting. they don't know what caused this fire. they're still working to figure out and they're trying to get some containment of this fire is spreading through dry brush and trees mostly on the east side of this lake. it's being fanned by the santa ana winds. and when it first came in, it

the higher in the elevation closer to the santa clarita mountains. here's what they have right now.the wind speeds still pushing offshore anywhere up to around 50 miles per hour in live time in areas like malibu and just along the shoreline closer to santa monothat. we advance the clock all the way into the 8:30 hour. boots on the ground in community members trying to evacuate are still dealing with these breezy, gusty conditions. it only takes about a 15-mile-per-hour wind gust to really allow for the spot fires to occur. and that's the reason why these lit up as fast as they did just yesterday. and all the way into the overnight hours. so as we advance the clock to lunchtime today, those winds still stay strong and it's not until around evening hours tonight where we start to see a shift in the winds all the way down into the high elevated areas. and then the los angeles basin has continued to see lighter conditions just in that area. let's head back to the bay real fast though. we're still under a wind advisory as we head into the next couple of hours. the time now is 6:354 -- 6:

magic mountain in the santa clarita area reporting 84mph. we get closer to where the fire is burning west of santa monica and santa monica, reporting a wind gust to 39 la reporting 45 malibu hills reporting 50mph. that fire is kind of stationed between malibu and santa monica. meanwhile, for us here at home, not quite as strong, but we also have very gusty conditions out there today. mount saint helena this morning reported 52mph. we have areas near mount diablo this earlier today reported near 50mph. the relative humidity for us has dropped off dramatically since yesterday, but not critically low like it is over southern california. this, in addition to northern california, including the bay area, has received way more rain this season than southern california. southern california in most areas hasn't received any accumulation in months, so it is very dry and the winds are really creating some havoc out there. the pattern that is set up is pretty much for the entire state from the bay area. we've got that northeast flow. southern california
