here's the rain in the santa cruz mountains. as it hits the mountains, it naturally rises, condenses and creates rain. as it sinks into the santa clara valley, it does the opposite. it dries, stabilizes. you can see as it hits the other side of the valley, it lifts again and more rain develops. that's going to be the case for you until we get later into the afternoon and evening hours. some of that play out as you head towards livermore. the farther north and closer to the coast, that's where the steader rain and heavier rain in the north bay. look at this fetch of moisture. plenty of moisture upstream. this low will drag the cold front through and bring us heavy rain tonight. it's also bringing heavy rain to the sierra. that's why the flood watch starts at 5:00 and goes through sunday at 11:00. 5 inches on top of the snowpack. the rain will melt the snowpack. we have a flood warning for the truckee river and for the carson river. these go all the way until sunday morning also. could be somdev station up there. you can see some m
