in santa cruz. jocelyn moran, nbc, bay area news. the embattled sheriff of san mateo county is striking back at the county that's trying to oust her. sheriff cristina corpus has filed a $10 million claim against san mateo county back in november. you may recall the county released an independent report that accused sheriff corpus of workplace misconduct. it suggested corpus fostered a culture of fear and retaliation, and that the sheriff may have had a romantic relationship with her chief of staff. sheriff corpus has denied all accusations against her. her attorney says the report was biased and part of a, quote, evil scheme to force her out of office. corpus, his legal team, also alleges she's been targeted because she is the county's first latina sheriff. in march, san mateo county voters will decide in a special election whether to grant authority to the board of supervisors to remove an elected sheriff and across the bay to the embattled antioch police department. the feds are now stepping in to

in santa cruz. lauren martinez abc seven news. >> to the east bay now. a fire tears through a gas station this afternoon in antioch. started just before 4 p.m. at star gas on lone tree way and rural road. firefighters had the flames under control in about 15 minutes, but it was ferocious for a time. the damage, however, is extensive. the building is considered a total loss, as you can clearly see from this video. investigators think the fire started in a utility closet and was accidental, possibly caused by some sort of electrical problem. very good news. at least no one was hurt. well, building a better bay area is all about finding solutions, as you know. which is why for the last decade, we've paid very close attention to san francisco's vision zero. that's the plan to make streets safer and bring traffic deaths to 0 in 2024. well, 2024 came and went and that vision has not come to fruition. in 2024, 41 people died on san francisco's streets, including two dozen pedestrians, even more than in 2014, when vision zero was first announced, when 31 people
