right now, a view on our storm ranger shows scattered areas of rain, including around the santa cruz mountains, but not much rain in san jose. this is the santa clara valley rain shadow effect underway where you got rising air over here on the west side of the santa cruz mountains. as the air comes up, rain falls on that side. then as the air drops down towards san jose, it tends to dry out. that's the reason why we've had about three inches of rain around ben lomond, but almost nothing in san jose. this particular upper air pattern is not good for producing a lot of rain around the south bay, but that is about to change big time tomorrow night into tuesday as a strong front passes through. we're talking wind gusts up to 45mph and potentially some heavy rain at times. san francisco southward. as we head into tuesday, we'll have a closer look at this storm, hour by hour and a colder storm on the way that could bring snow levels down to the higher peaks of the bay area later this week. coming up in just a few minutes. all right, rob, thanks. and you can track the next round of rain rob

updated the very latest rainfall totals for today alone, approaching two inches of rain in the santa cruz mountains. look at la honda approaching an inch and a quarter. santa rosa over an inch. same in kentfield. los gatos. that's impressive. and orinda, now approaching three quarters of an inch of rain. brentwood getting into the mix. and san jose tonight at over 3/10 of an inch of rain. in addition to this, on the other side of the coin here, we've had some very gusty winds. check out the santa cruz mountains, mount vernon at 85 mile per hour winds, and fairfield coming in at 37 mile per hour wind gusts. and we will continue to see and feel these winds throughout the overnight hours. this is a very strong warm front. it's lifting from the pacific ocean in a north and northeasterly direction as we cue in on the bay area. you see the hit and miss scattered rain showers in the north bay, also the eastern portion of the bay area. to give you an idea of where it's all coming from. again, it's lifting and scraping across the eastern portion of our bay area and heading towards the sacramento v
