the national weather service issued that warning today for the santa cruz mountains, eastern santa clara, santa lucia mountains, and los padres national forest. a live look here tonight at the east bay hills, where the lds temple sits in the hills. this is the first red flag warning issued for parts of the bay area this week, and that warning is in effect, in effect until 9 a.m. tomorrow. we'll bring in meteorologist mark tamayo now with a look at the warnings. excuse me. we'll have him a bit later in our newscast. sunday is 49ers home game. could be the hottest in levi's stadium history. the forecast calls for temperatures in the low 90s, around 105, which is kickoff time. and if that holds more than 50,000, fans could be sitting in that hot sun for hours. levi's stadium has been scrutinized since it opened ten years ago for failing to protect fans from the elements, and the heat will be making a comeback this weekend. >> as you heard the red flag warning issued for portions of the bay area as those offshore winds increase a bit over the for the overnight hours. here's a look right now

the santa cruz mountains, the east foothills in the south bay. we will see a bit of an offshore wind overnight tonight. not incredibly strong. gusts to about 25mph, but it will bring humidity levels down to about 8%. combine that with overnight lows basically in the 80s and in the 90s. that's a recipe that if any fires do start, they could spread quickly. so we'll keep our eyes on that. just know it's not a long duration event, but there is a critical period early tomorrow morning where we do have elevated fire danger. so this afternoon it's warm to hot out there any evening plans you have, it's going to be very mild still and even late tonight. we're not seeing too much of a cool breeze kick in, just like the past couple of nights. we don't cool off all that much. so today, 80s and 90s around the bay shoreline, our heat advisories continue. the excessive heat warnings 96 in santa rosa, 86 in oakland, 97 in san jose, inland, we're 98 to about 100 degrees in the city. we're back into the 80s overnight tonight. we're not finding much in the way of

a look at look at the new fire station set to open in the santa cruz mountains. we'll rightbe seven. welcome back. we're moving you forward with a look at the top stories on today in the bay. well, the high profile murder trial of nima momeni is set to resume shortly. he is accused of killing cash app co-founder bob lee. right now, prosecutors are only on their third witness testimony from kazama mini. this is the sister of nima is expected to resume today. new calls for action along a stretch of south bay highway, where an emergency dispatcher recently died in a head on crash. it happened early monday morning on highway 25 near gilroy. friends of 35 year old priscilla jones are now demanding immediate improvements, including a new median rail, which they say already exists on the same highway in neighboring san benito county. they've organized an online petition and hope to kick start a new push to widen the highway to four lanes. hundreds of striking hotel workers are organizing a march today in downtown san francisco. they first walked off the job last month,

most of this system now is down towards san jose, morgan hill, san martin, gilroy, santa cruz, santa cruz mountains. so there's not much left, but it made it so 50s on most of the temps, some 40s, 30s in the mountains. snow up there though. truckee, south lake tahoe, a little bit of activity, not too much. 1 to 2in at lake level, maybe 4 to 6, some of the higher elevations. but there is a winter weather advisory out goes until 2:00 today. snow level around 5000 506,000ft. blue canyon is reporting some snow, so around 5500ft. but ther if you're going up 50 or 80. so to the north clearing. but there's still plenty of clouds coming down. could be a stray shower or two. i'll mention a lot of cool air coming down, so we'll keep that in the forecast. but after this morning we get kind of a break until late friday and early saturday. there you go. more snow in the mountains. we'll get another quarter to maybe a half inch here. maybe mount tamalpais casadero will do better than that, but i'll deal with that tomorrow. and more snow for the mountains. so this is good ending october. going into early november

and there were spots in the santa cruz mountains that had almost a half inch of rainfall, as well as in parts of marin county. berkeley, you had 3/10 of an inch of rainfall. and in the north bay, about a quarter inch, and mount saint helena and in boulder creek in the santa cruz mountains, about a quarter inch of rain there. and we are also looking at some other of the rainfall totals that we had measured. up to about a 10th of an inch is what we saw in san francisco and oakland. almost a quarter inch of rainfall there, but in spots in the tri-valley, it was not a whole lot. but the roads may still be wet as the system continues to push to the south and east. the rain is clearing the south bay as well as you're heading out. this morning. once again, the roads may still be a little damp, so just allow some extra time to get to work. it will be clearing out, drying out as we go throughout the day. sunshine and our highs headed for the upper 60s and much of the north bay. napa will hit a high of 66 degrees today. 64 in fremont and 66 in san jose going into tomorrow. there is not much of

looks like there's a concentration of some showers down the santa cruz mountains. good.e find the open up in earnest by monday night and through tuesday. by this point, we have the winds cooking by this point. it will be offshore winds. let's get to that part of the program. it's onshore for right now through much of the day today. so a little bit of an onshore breeze, somewhat typical. then it really picks up. starts to shift more northwesterly. this is up by tomorrow evening. doesn't last really long. but this lowe's digging in our backyard, driving this. and when we have these passing systems, it tends to be an offshore wind and that can be problematic. moisture levels, dew drop off here, but not for too long. and there's some more moisture coming our way by midweek. here it is on future cast for all media traffic for right now. there's that low digging in its the offshore colder air mass plummeting down. here's our next hit of rain. potentially midweek. this would be wednesday night into thursday morning after all the tricks and treats and the ghosts and goblins and

the flames sparked just after 730 along highway 17 near glenwood drive in the santa cruz mountains. the fire did force some home evacuations. cal fire, fortunately, was able to contain the summit fire to little more than one acre, and a major route across the north bay is back open this morning after a gas spill yesterday afternoon, crews worked overnight to clean up and clear parts of highway 37. that's a busy route that crosses solano, sonoma and marin counties and connects highway 101 with interstate 80. the road was shut down around 330 yesterday afternoon after a crash just outside vallejo. the chp tells us. two vehicles crashed and a big rig flipped over. you can see that photo there. it spilled gas into the bay. crews got the tanker out of the water by 830 last night and cleared the scene by midnight. now to a follow up. teachers on the peninsula have reached a tentative agreement with their school district for a new contract. educators from the las lomitas education association, which covers schools in atherton and menlo park, hit the picket line back on wednesday. the union

working the way down the santa cruz mountains that is how you know it is off shore. it will dry out the landscape. the humidities are low. no doubt you experienced this. the temperatures are getting impacted in a scenario like this. morning lows and day time highs, if you remove the wind, see how low the humidity is. coming back up to the north bay. when you get low humidity like that, the air does not have as much insulation in it. the numbers go lower. morning lows, not like we are talking about frost advisories but going down to the lower 40s. pick out your part of the north bay. working your way up 101. now look at everybody's lows. you will see that we don't all do that. there will be a lot of numbers in here that are holding on to the 50s. subtle, warmer, when we look at day time highs for tomorrow we are go back for our warmest inland spots, back near 80. 81 san jose. 81 livermore. san francisco, still in the lower 70s. this is friday, this is saturday, sunday, things will change. we look at that a moment ago. taking a look at the big picture. i want to give y

you can see the santa cruz mountain range in the background here, and we have several decks of clouds. just beautiful. these clouds are on the back end of the passage of the cold front. that did produce a little bit of rain showers around the bay area. currently we have temperatures from 59 in half moon bay to 68 degrees in fairfield. it's also just shy of 70 degrees in san jose. the winds are pretty flat to the north and to the east. oakland now picking up a breeze to 12. but take a look at the peninsula through the santa clara valley. winds are at 15 16mph. these winds will continue to blow until about sundown tonight. again, 611 now that smattering of precipitation across the bay area. a 10th here, a 10th there, but over an inch. and mount tamalpais in the north bay and the santa cruz mountains approaching a half an inch of rain. so we have system number one pass us. we have yet another one poised and positioned to bring us more rainfall by friday night into our saturday. and this next system will be more. i want to say it's going to produce more copious amounts of precipitation he

better odds, probably closer to the coast in the santa cruz mountains, and it really is a brief chance of seeing the showers rolling in as we head to about 9 a.m. into the afternoon. then as we head into the evening, skies start to clear and the wind does start to pick up. blustery conditions 20 to 35 mile per hour winds during the nighttime hours. and then as we head into the morning, look at the drop in temperatures, wind sheltered valleys dropping into the 30s and low 40s. colder spots likely to be the north bay, maybe some of the interior east bay valleys both tuesday morning on into wednesday. now, by thursday, the temperatures do come up because we're going to have more moisture in the air and more clouds, which could mean a little bit of rain right now to start off halloween. and by the way, cold enough for cierra snow as we head through that thursday forecast. as we head into thursday night, looks like we might see a little less in the way of showers than as we transition to that friday saturday forecast windy and a little bit warmer could be the trend as we move forward into n

the areas in dark purple there in the east bay and parts of the south bay and santa cruz mountains and then we also have major heat risk in many parts of the east bay, some parts of the north bay, and also the south bay. more moderate heat risk now for the north bay and the coast. and that's where temperatures were a bit cooler today and temperatures right now. you'll notice they range from even 75 in san francisco to almost 100 degrees. oakland is 80 degrees, san jose 92. but brentwood 99 degrees and up towards cloverdale 94 degrees. we had a little bit of that sea breeze that cooled things down in the north bay and also the coast, but offshore pattern that remains in effect for the next few days. so here's our future cast by later on this evening, temperatures will be cooling down into the 80s for the inland areas. and then tomorrow morning you'll want to open up those windows, but still mild temperatures in the 60s. and although not quite as hot, we will still be near 100 degrees tomorrow. i'll have the accuweather seven day forecast, and i'll let you know when we can see a more sig

santa cruz. those are offshore winds coming over the santa cruz mountains downsloping towards the coast. of course, it makes it warm if you're along the coast on a day like this, but it also dries out the air and makes it relatively warm for everybody. so relative humidities are pretty low to show you what the numbers look like, take in the bay as a whole. we'd like these in the 30s or higher. some of these are in the teens. if you find yourself reaching for the chapstick, this is why, two more days of this. tomorrow and saturday are still very much under the influence of this. if you look at the daytime highs, let's just look at tomorrow, still getting some 80s out of this. enjoy this. if this is your kind of weather and the time of year when we'll do this, make the most of tomorrow and saturday because when that system comes in here on sunday, it likely does change the pattern enough for us and we'll keep temperatures relatively cool. look at the seven-day forecast. there's your two days in the 80s. there's that small chance of rain on sunday we talked about and look at temperatures be

and then also you can see the peaks and the santa cruz mountains as well. so that is where the red flag warning is. it does go until 09:00am tomorrow morning. now the reason for this. >> obviously warm temperatures, very dry conditions. we've got a little bit of wind to contend with as well. put that all together and you get fire danger. not surprising. obviously, we've been talking about this for the past few days with all of this heat and just this time of year, we're so dry. also want to mention that up in lake county. clear lake also is in this. they are just in the red 5 morning until this evening, whereas everyone else here in the bay area is until tomorrow morning. so let's talk temperatures. we do have a livermore right now sitting right on the cusp of triple digit heat. 99 degrees. we to get up to 105 there yesterday. hopefully we will not get there today. 97 in san jose fairing better up in the north bay nevado now at 90 77 in oakland. so feeling a little bit cooler around the bay itself. having said that, fremont right now sitting at 90 degrees.

we can see all the way to the santa cruz mountains. and this is all due to the winds that have been blowing offshore at this hour. take note of this. it's 69 degrees in livermore, where a pretty blustery morning was had. meanwhile, 72 degrees in half moon bay. how about that? it's warmer along the sea shore than it is in our inland areas. these temperatures are averaging seven degrees warmer at the beaches. five degrees cooler north of the golden gate bridge, and livermore, sporting three degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. at this time, the winds are beginning to back up somewhat and throughout the tri-valley right now, concord is reporting a five mile per hour wind 16 in fairfield, with 21 mile per hour gusts. these winds will pick up during the afternoon hours out of the northeast and also easterly, up to 20mph. and boy, these winds are really drying out the atmosphere right now. the winds are calm at sfo. we will see a stronger breeze. now this is our futurecast and you could clearly see at this lunchtime hour relative humidities int

wind coming over the mountains and working their way down slope, down the santa cruz mountains, and towards the coastline. when that happens, things, they warm up. those are down slope winds, so you'll be warmer, but also drier. this is the kinds of scenario where you might be inclined to reach for the chap stick more often. but if you haven't noticed that aspect of it, you've certainly noticed the temperature aspect. i'll remove the relative humidities in the mid-20s, we'd like to see them in the 30s and 40s. dry air does something else. it also allows the temperatures at night to really cool down. so if you take a look at what's coming tomorrow morning, just for the north bay, we'll spotlight you because on situations like this, offshore wind events, you can start getting colder in the mornings because the offshore winds have dried out the air. humidity in the air is usually an insulator. you clear out the humidity, you lose the blanket, and it gets colder. let's do the lows for the entire bay. the wide view, morning lows in the mid-50s for many of the warmer inland spots. and certainly i

just into our newsroom, firefighters are working to put out a small brush fire in the santa cruz mountains. this is on matilija drive in los gatos near highway nine. santa clara county fire says that more firefighters are on the way. this is the time lapse of that video showing just how close it is to burning nearby those homes in that area. so far, no reports of any injuries, and it's not yet clear how this fire started, but of course, we have had dry conditions across the bay area. meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring that as i've been seeing your forecast. no rain in the future? no. and, you know, it's extremely dry out there in terms of the vegetation. so it's we've as we've mentioned several times before, we just have to be really careful. actually, there is some rain, but it is just north of the bay area and it's being blocked by high pressure. that's giving us the warm conditions. all of the clouds and rain streaming across northern california up toward oregon and washington state. but that will not be coming. our way because we are seeing the high pressure holding it up just
