this is in the mountain view way area of santa rosa. the skyhawk neighborhood is a subdivision in the area where we have sadly seen home after home completely engulfed in these flames. it's been a tough situation for firefighters. people, fortunately, in the areas have been evacuated. unfortunately they're not going to have much to come back to. firefighters are doing their best to get a handle on these flames. they are able to protect some homes. we know there are embers burning out there as well. >> this is highway 12 in santa rosa at montana road. that's a barn burning in the back. so firefighters are trying to tackle that right now. certainly they are up against all of these flames this morning that they tried to get control of this fire and try to protect what they can. you can see them dousing that barn there with the water hoping to save that structure from burning, and that's what we're seeing throughout a lot of these neighborhoods this morning that firefighters are up against that task. it's the fire, it's the heat from the te

he's live for us in santa rosa off of highway 12. i know you've seen fires sprout up all over the place. so talk about what's going on where you are now. >> reporter: well, marcus, firefighters were afraid that the shady fire would come down the hills, cross highway 12, and start burning through these residential areas of east santa rosa. and unfortunately as you can see behind me, that's what it did. it burned up brand road. this is on the south side of highway 12. and it burned at least -- well, let's just put it this way, several structures. this might've been a business and there are some homes up here, probably six, seven structures are just gone. this was the scene overnight just down the street from where we were at. the fire came close to burning down another house. petaluma fire department, which was assigned to thisotected the couldn't. they ran out of water and there were no fire hydrants nearby. when they returned the house was still standing and they kept it from burning down. hard work and a little luck on their part. n

changing fast here in east santa rosa. we're on channel road and you can see behind us there is this property and this home here that is burning. and it is making a huge plume of smoke that is raining embers on us and it seems to be moving closer and closer. i don't think that it has made its way to the property next to it yet, but honestly any moment it could. it is moving fast. this palm tree, there were just a few flames when we arrived and now it is completely engulfed in flames. this beautiful palm tree destroyed. and it is blowing the embers -- oh, just got some embers raining down on us. so this is a fast moving sporadic fire. in rhyme or reason to where the embers are landing and starting the spot fires. and if you saw us earlier, you would know that we saw a lot of fire trucks, first responders working in other areas near here. right now it is quite and so it is a sign that there are few resources. there is no one here. again, some of these properties are spared, but that again could change. 17,000 people here in

helena road in santa rosa. look at the hot and dry conditions fueling this fire. >> it is still hot and dry, but it is not as windy. so that is good you news. the breeze is light out of the south. even the gusts are only around 10 miles per hour, a remarkable improvement from the conditions we had over the weekend and early this morning. the problem is temperatures are still in the 90s. the relative humidity humidity level s are quite low, so, still challenging fire containment conditions for the crews, but you can follow the streamlines of the wind direction starting to shift in the direction that would push the fire away from santa rosa, keep it from encroaching the city itself. the humidity will go up as we head through the rest of tonight. the values go up overnight when the temperatures drop off. these are the numbers we want to see in the north bay. over 90%, approaching 100% in spots. as the numbers heat up tomorrow the numbers will drop back but it won't be as bone dry as the weekend or today . gusts ou

we're in the eastern santa rosa area, the eastern part of santa rosa. i have to tell you compared to 24 hours ago the conditions are much more favorable. we're not seeing actual fire activity from the area we're at now where we were able to see it yesterday. there's hardly any wind and the temperatures are much less where you're probably just under 60 degrees. whereas yesterday we were hovering around 90 degrees, talking about 30-degree temperature difference. hopefully this morning we'll hear from cal fire they made a lot of progress in fighting the glass fire burning not too far from here. here was the scene last night, a lot of people from santa rosa. they went up to fountain grove, the fire burned through yesterday trying to find the fire to see where it's headed. we know it's moved south into the annadel state park. they say it's not where they wanted it to go but it did. for one woman we spoke to last night her third mandatory fire evacuation since 2017. she says it's devastating. >> we're safe. >> pretty scary, yeah. my wife was packing, getting

upper 60s in san jose and mid 60s for santa rosa. the heat is on for sure. we are going to see temperatures climbing even hotter compared to yesterday. i want to get the current conditions for where the glass fire is burning and what firefighters are up against. we have been watching winds pick up, just to 18 miles an hour with the northerly winds. that is a dry, offshore wind flow for us. that means humanity is down to 14%. low relative humidity drop values. temperatures are in the low 80s. a red flag warning affect until 9:00 p.m. for the areas highlighted in red. entire north bay, these bay hills and valleys. we have seen gus as high as 50 to more than 60 miles per hour already this morning. and we're looking at again, the low relative humidity, about 10% to 25%. thankfully we are going to see winds ease as we head to the day. air-quality forecast, because of that offshore wind flow, we are looking at smoke pushing back into the bay area. unhealthy for the north bay, east bay and santa clara valley, moderate air-quality for the coast and the south central
