goodrich in for sara donchey tonight. the last 28 hours have been pretty intense in one contra costa county neighborhood. they've been ordered to shelter in place two nights in a row in an ordeal raising questions about how police are handling a barricaded suspect. the man has been holed up inside his pleasant hill home since 7:00 last night when police say he shot and wounded his wife. she'll be okay, her injuries were minor. a swat team sat outside the house until 2:00 a.m. trying to convince him to come out. then, they left and let him be. police said at the time they didn't believe he was a threat, and when we checked out the neighborhood earlier this evening, it was practically empty without police around. well, now the swat team is back, and they've locked the neighborhood down again. our andrea nakano is live in that very neighborhood right now. she's been talking to neighbors and people there, and what are you seeing right now, andrea? >> reporter: well, we started noticing some slight changes to the traffic patte

i am sara donchey, in for juliet today. here in the bay area, jewish families are celebrating the first night of hanukkah. it symbolizes finding light in darkness. it is a message that is resonating for many israelis right now with the war between israel and hamas entering its third month. the october 7th attacks in israel killed at least 1200 people have an estimated 16,000 palestinians have been killed in the conflict. across the country, traditional menorah lighting ceremonies are happening, even as members of the jewish community are feeling uneasy about the war and about anti-semitism. in just the last hour, the first candle on the menorah was lit in san francisco's in union square. the 48th year of this tradition. loren thomas is live in union square, speaking to people who came out. lord, we have heard in the past as recently as today that there is concern among jewish families about actually celebrating publicly. right? >> reporter: yeah. that is correct, sir. the menorah here in union square is lit. hanukkah has be

. >>> from kpix, this is late news with sara donchey . on cbs news bay area. >> good evening, i am juliette goodrich in for sarah tonight. the bay area got drenched today and it looks like the rain is starting to come down but we are not done with the storm yet. heavy rain earlier today turned the sonoma county road into a rushing river. station road just outside of windsor was impassable. and up the road in cloverdale, a falling tree took out a deck on river road. fortunately nobody was hurt some powerlines also came down. and on the coastline, there is still a risk of powerful waves and choppy serve, parts of santa cruz county under evacuation warnings right now including capitola village where business owners broke out the sandbags tonight. oh yes, waves like these pounded the coastline, flooding the village and causing damage and people are still warned to stay away from the coast. let's get more on our weather forecast into the new year, let's head on over to meteorologist darren peck. >>> one item at a time we will talk more about t
