. >>> first, let's go to our white house correspondent sara murray with more of the growing concerns about jared kushner and security clearance. sara, there is apparently a lot of pressure on kushner right now and the trump white house. >> reporter: that's right, wolf. democrats are calling on kushner security clearance to be revoked and while republicans have not gone quite that far, there is certainly concern on both ends of pennsylvania avenue about the future of kushner's security clearance. >>> jared kushner, the president apartments son is in law and senior advisor is regularly at president trump's side. whether the president is mulling national security decisions, meeting with foreign leaders, or attempting to strike a mid east peace deal, a key component of kushner's white house portfolio. without a security clearance, some experts say it would be practically impossible for kushner to serve in the west wing. for now kushner has been operating with an interim clearance. the final decision could come down to trump. he can override any reservations from others in the white house

cnn white house correspondent sara murray joins me from paris. sara, tell us about who got to ask the president questions there, because there were, it's not necessarily who he normally calls on? >> reporter: that's right. i mean, president trump has made a habit on calling of news media sympathetic to this cause. the first question he called on another american television reporter from there and she asked a question. the second question was a little surprise. he called on a chinese reporter, not on a, an american reporter in the sort of normal traveling press pool in order to ask a question about china. they seem to be taking a different tactic in how they deal with the media. obviously, that's no longer a surprise from this administration. the other thing we've seen, sometimes they let people know ahead of time if they were getting questioned. that was one clear bp the french were aware they would ask questions of president macron and unclear this chinese journalist knew he would be getting a question. certainly a surprise and a different format

cnn white house correspondent sara murray has an update for us on this. so, sara, this is such an important meeting that he's going to have with putin. what is the administration hoping to accomplish here? >> reporter: it is a big meeting, brianna. it is a big meeting because of russia's meddling in the election. the president said such flattering things about vladimir putin on the campaign trail. this is the first time they are going to meet face to face and get a chance to size each other up as two world leaders. now, as ryan nobles pointed out, the conflicts of syria and ukraine are going to be on the agenda. but beyond that, trump's advisors say he's really going to be the one who can set the rest of the agenda, decide what else he wants to talk about, and even as administration official here were saying, look, we're not really expecting a decision to be made about using sanctions or about whether we might return these compounds that the u.s. seized from russia at the end of their -- compounds in the u.s. at the end of 2006. this is what was done under

let's begin with sara murray live in warsaw where the president is about to give that speech. sara, what did you make of the press conference? >> reporter: pretty remarkable comments from president trump in his press conference today alongside the polish president. one of the things that's sure to raise eyebrows is president trump questioning whether it was just russia that was behind hacking in the 2016 election and blaming his predecessor, barack obama. >> i think it could very well have been russia, but it could have been other countries. i won't be specific. i think a lot of people interfered. i think it's been happening for a long time. it's been happening for many years. the thing i have to mention is that barack obama when he was president found out about this in terms of if it were russia. find out about it in august. they say he choked. well, i don't think he choked. i think what happened is he thought hillary clinton was going to win the election, and he said let's not do anything about it. >> reporter: whether president trump is inclined to accept it over not, 17 u.s

sara murray at the white house. thank you very much. there is a lot riding on that meeting that sara was taubling about. cnn has learned that the meeting with putin rather than riding on the election. what do you think about this? >> there is certainly a great deal to talk about that's urgent for syria. you have u.s.-russian forces, kurdish forces and others weighing in on syria. they're getting in very close quarters. that increases dangeres but tha also raises questions about after russia falls. who is going to be in charge. >> you'll hear, even from a. the last high profile meeting the president had with russians, t the. he got to talking about why he wouldn't talk to anyone in the united states. if the president wants to change the focus from that, this would be the opportunity here, but again, at least administration officials are saying no plans to do that at this point. >> and jim, the president talked to the chinese president xi this weekend about north korea, even though there have been some tensions between the u.s. and china.

sara murray is live for us in warsaw. what do you expect when president trump gets there? >> reporter: we are certainly expecting a warm reception here for him in poland, so much so that some of the polish people are being offered free busing so they could come into warsaw from other parts of the country to see president trump's speech. this is after the polish president made quite a to-do about the fact that president trump would be visiting here before he visits germany or france, other key allies. but that warm reception certainly is not enough to mask some of the complex diplomatic problems that were plaguing president trump. president trump leaving the white house behind as he embarks on his second overseas trip and faces a new round of challenges on the world stage. the most vexing issue may prove to be growing tensions with north korea. trump indicated last week he's prepared to take a tougher line with kim jong-un. >> today we are facing the threat of the reckless and brutal regime in north korea, the nuclear and ballistic missile programs of that regime that requi

let us go to sara murray at the white house who can tell us more on this breaking story. ia tweet these days, one wonders what kind of preparation anybody inside the white house knew about this. what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, look, we have been hearing from people last night as well as this morning that the president was not happy with his chief of staff, that he is being encouraged by people around him, including members of his family, who are his senior advisers jared kushner and ivanka trump, that it was time to make a change. they didn't feel reince priebus was up to the job of chief of staff. there were people close to the president that felt that priebus wasn't carrying out the president's wishes, that he wasn't calming down the chaos and power strugstruggle, but al that he wasn't pushing the president's plan in the agenda. allies that are close to priebus was insistent today that the chief of staff would be safe. they were insistent that priebus would not be resigning, so it was pretty clear if there was going to be a change, it was something the president
