i'm sara stinson reporting in moss landing. back to you. >> all right. another big concern tonight is, of course, where all of the smoke is going. yeah conference. chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has been tracking the wind conditions in monterey county. he's here now with the very latest, lawrence guys, if in fact it is burning in some of those batteries, those are a lithium-ion batteries. they've got some bad medals and they're very toxic out there as well. so concerned about some of the smoke conditions in there. right now. we're getting a little bit of a southerly component to some of those winds there. so you see moss landing care of that smoke eaking its way toward the north. you've got places like elkhorn, you've got laslo most and of course, a much larger populated area in watsonville. but some of that smoke, a travel all the way up. an app toss also in the santa cruz as well. so we're going to be watching that throughout the night tonight and early tomorrow morning. electrical fires with batters traditionally very hard to put out. right now.

i'm sara stinson reporting in san francisco. back to you. >> new at 10 santa cruz is set to reopen its worth this weekend after it partially collapsed just days before christmas. city officials say an assessment showed the wharf is safe to reopen, but the portion of the pier that collapsed will, of course, remain closed. leaders are set to hold a ceremony saturday morning for the reopening on december 23rd about 150 feet of the war of collapse. within seconds as huge waves battered the pilings beyond their breaking point. big pieces of the broken dwarf are still scattered across santa cruz county beaches. this reopening will take place as officials are warning about another high surf advisory this weekend conference. chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with a little bit more on that morning. last winter time in the bay area. we've got some big storms in the middle of pacific. and once they move across those waters. >> those winds are strong enough. they'll generate some big swells. and we've seen that play out this
