we begin with sarah dallof in western new york. sarah? >> reporter: south of buffalo, snow-weary crews are scramble to go catch up. >> i've turned down 103 new contracts that called in, just because we can't handle it, because we're already buried as it is. >> reporter: digging out homeowners who have been trapped for days. >> this is the neighborhood. >> reporter: neighbors have been relying on one another. dan borrowed a sled to pull supplies home from the store. >> the neighbors texted me the grocery list, and i got everything they needed. >> reporter: today saw those neighbors scraping their roofs. some balanced carefully on top. others working from the ground. dozens of buildings collapsed overnight from the weight of all of the snow. and authorities announced the deaths of at least three more people, including two residents of a nursing home that was evacuated due to a buckling roof. the snowfall has stopped. and now the focus shifts to the weekend and the warmer temperatures that are forecasted. the resulting snow melt could create

sarah dallof joins me with more from blooming grove, pennsylvania. the kids were able to get out there and enjoy halloween after his capture. >> reporter: they were, alex. halloween up until he was captured had been canceled for safety concerns but it was reinstated just in time. kids able to go trick-or-treating and the annual parade able to go down main street. it wasn't just the holiday. it was this fear, this unease hanging over residents' shoulders during these 48 days. we had schools canceled. residents were asked not to leave their home. throughout pike and monroe counties today, the word here hearing is relief. >> people have to get on with their lives. i was just glad the whole thing was over. i didn't like what was happening to people or how people were acting. >> it was putting a lot of stress on the kids because they're afraid to go to school. they kept closing school all the time. >> reporter: and there's a huge outpouring of support for the men and women of law enforcement who gave so many hours during these 48 days searching for eric f

in new york, sarah dallof, nbc news. >> just really is a horrible situation up there.ding on top of all of that. around here, well, we've got some sunshine still out there. 39 your temperature. yes, it's been cold. and you can see by 9:00 we're headed down to 32. and then 29 degrees. impact forecast for tomorrow, on the low side, because of sunshine and the fact is, it's just not going to be as cold. tomorrow's high temperature, close to 50 degrees. look at this. our range, upper 40s. hagerstown around martinsburg, 46. cumberland, 46 degrees. 52 in petersburg and 50s. a nice day tomorrow. meanwhile, sunday, you're looking at it. we are going to be seeing more clouds move in, but again, that rain probably nottel in very late in the day. so we're going to track it here for you. look at this. this is 9:00, the first bit of rain hitting winchester, charlottesville and around petersburg, so sunday night rain, unfortunately, could be heavy from 11:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. early monday morning. i do think, however, by -- here we are at 4:00 a.m. 6:00, 7:00 a.m., the drive into

sarah dallof at a parked laguardia airport in new york and wendy at o'hare and domenica davis is commanding the storm weather cycle and we begin with luke at reagan. looks pretty miserable out there. where is your coat? i thought you were smarter than this. >> i rock the polifleece. i have buffalo blood in me. this is easy. we are one buffalo, we are strong. but let's talk about the weather here at dca. as you see, a lot of precipitation. it's been falling steadily since about 11:00 a.m. this morning. the runway because it's not below freezing and still been wet and mobile. what we're seeing is delays up to 45 minutes whether it be arrival or departure and, also, because of this sort of frigid precipitation we have in the air, it means that planes have to be deiced before they can take off, which is adding to the delays. visibility around here is about five miles. about 30 miles from me around dulles airport, they took more snow, the brunt of the storm, shall we say. they are getting a little bit around the same delays. about an hour. what you guys said the roads. the roads are treacherous.

nbc's sarah dallof joins us from new york with more. hey, sarah. >> reporte hey, veronica.snow stacked high on rooftops, the street signs barely peeking over pis of it, the impact of these storms can really be seen everywhere. and they're not over yet. a city blanketed in snow paralyze 5 feet it dumped in upstate new york over the last two days. residents racing around the clock to dig out before they get pummeled with more snow. >> snow piles up this high over here. >> this morning cleaning out the driveway a headed to the store to get more gas for the snowblower. graa some food. >> r the constant hum of snowblowers clearing streets. the roar of plows working nonstop for more than a day, moving the massive accumulation of s front end loaders have been brought in because the snow is so thick and heavy. homes are encased in the white stuff. some appear to have added a second story. othe collapsed. residents using whatever they can to remove the added weight from the rooftops. state and local officials stress, residents should stay home and off the roads. >> people attempting

sarah dallof? >> reporter: well, good afternoon. we have ice levels being checked on. and earlier we had an ice jam break and we saw the river swell in a matter of minutes nearly cresting the banks. it is unpredictable conditions like these that have officials cautioning people to be ready to go at any minute. and pack a bag in case you have to evacuate immediately. we just returned from an apartment complex that's flooding right now. we saw residents in the apartment complex scurrying to get their items off the ground to get up to a higher area. meanwhile n the surrounding neighborhoods, the snow cleanup continues. keep in mind, all that snow on the roofs now that it's rained has become so heavy and dense there is a lot of concern about more collapsed roofs and more collapsed buildings. so a lot going on here, sue. folks here in buffalo can't seem to catch a break as far as the weather goes. back to you. >> thank you so much, sarah. appreciate it. as buffalo digs itself out to prepare for that flooding, more bad weather is expected to head into your turkey day travel.

sarah dallof in new york. luke russert live in washington, d.c. luke, is anybody, is anybody going to get home to see grandma? >> well, as of right now, the delays here at dca aren't too bad, joy. it's about a half hour to 45 minutes. if you go about 20 miles away from here to dulles international, the delays are more severe and more of the snow drif driflt that was felt here at 11:30 a.m. the snow and sleet and the precipitation will fall around here throughout the evening. but, airport officials say the runways are clear. this precipitation has not gathered on them. so they should be able to move folks in and out. i just took a walk through the terminal, though, what sarah said looking at that big board, a lot of red. delays in the 35, 40 minutes. what will be inest therie delays in the 35, 40 minutes. what will be inest theristinest severe the precipitation will be. what we learned from airport officials, they have to be deiced. taking 20, 30 minutes up to an hour depending on how quickly the machine can get to the airplanes. probably the most

nbc's sarah dallof is in the area. >> you can see residents are beginning to dig out here. this road is clear, but check out all of this snow on either side of me. when the temperatures warm up this weekend, that has to go somewhere, and that is what officials are very concerned about for the coming weekend. as for now, the focus remains on possible building collapses and roof collapses. there were 30 overnight. we were told the majority of those were farm buildings or flat roofs. when the temperatures did warm up though, and it begins to get wet, they expect that snow to get even heavier. they'll be keeping a close eye on structures come this weekend. a driving ban in this area remains in effect. although officials are meeting to discuss that today. residents beginning to get back to life as normal. >> these pictures are just unbelievable behind you. thanks very much. >>> coming up in our next hour a full forecast from bill karins. it's a jam-packed rundown on this friday morning. just minutes away from speaker boehner expected to hit back at the president on immigration.
