. >> yes, sarah jones, planning director for sfmta.thank you for the question and i'll give an introduction into how we started grappling with that matter of mode in the context of chapter 9 and then tim who is on my team who has been doing the detailed work on this might want to add some things. within the context of chapter 9, we really started to dig into that matter of mode from the standpoint of recognizing how we're trying to do a number of things. we're trying to deal with the matter of emissions and we are also dealing with in the context of transportation, a lot of other issues around space efficiency and streets and safety and kind of dealing with what can feel like very hostile streets at times. and the matters of transportation equity. we were working from a space of sustainability that was really doing too much. in the context of chapter 9, we have worked to really specifically define that issue of emission and low emissions and introduce the notion of efficiency and all of the other reasons you want to have non auto trans

i will ask sarah jones from m.t.a., director of planning if she wants to add anything about timing and cost of these things. >> thanks to all commissioners for putting so much time and attention into this today. i would say that it is right. we have a range of options that are exciting and interesting to think about. one of the options with mlk which was just the one signal is something that actually is similar to what is already in the capital improvement plan. we are intending to add a signal at lincoln and 41st. yes, that is something that is in the pipeline already. as you noted there are short term improvements that go into place at mlk intersection and with the how the vehicle restrictions on mlk might work that can really make this work both in the shorter term and in the longer term. i would say the three signal option is one that is pretty significant investment and needs a lot more consideration by our engineers around it. the option that would close access between the lakes is something that would be physically easy to implement but would take more discussion and connection
