sarah murray on the set. i suppose when you looked at last night's coverage and saw every analyst on all the networks saying the man is running fourth in a two-man race. it is an inevitable decision that would be made. there's no mathematical way and i'm not sure he had that second vote. what were we all waiting for? >> i don't think he was necessarily doing it at this point because of the math or the delegates. he said at one point, he thought about dropping out after these mid-atlantic states voted and kind of got creamed in those contests and talked to the wife and said, give people a choice. the whole point was to offer this alternate narrative and talking to sources saying he was at the airport. he was going to go to dc. he was going to set off on this sprint of fundraisers and try to stay in a race for longer and get his message across. and they just realized that it was not possible to do it. he realized it was not feasible to stay in the race at this point. he briefed his senior aides and the airplane

let's bring in sarah murray and cnn correspondent in anaheim, california. we mentioned the warning from anaheim police to protest. how are authorities preparing for this trump rally in the next few hours? >> reporter: well, we'll show you right now. just as you were speaking, wolf, we saw all of these officers mounted on horseback at least two dozen of them lining up here. he said, hold, and all of them prepared and got their horses right here in the line. the people who are going to enter the rally about 7500 of them are walking a metal gauntlet of barricades. you could see them coming in so the officers are guarding them. i should note, we've also seen motorcycle officers, many other officers way off in the distance. if you look at the sheriff's deputies, more preparations. look on the back of one of the officer's belt. those are the flex cuffs, the flexible kand hahandcuffs. if there's violence, blocking of traffic, destruction of property, there will be arrests and quite a show of force as we said, wolf, right over to the right with all of these officer

cnn political reporter sarah murray joining me now live from new york. sarah, another surprise. kasich, he was hoping to hold on to the republican convention and that's in his home state. why the change of heart now? >> well, jim. it's amazing. the change of heart happened so quickly. i mean, last night, his aides were insisting he was going to stay to cleveland or someone had 1237 delegates. trump had 1237 bound delegates and they were actually at the airport. they were on the plane. they were going to be headed to dc this morning. and john kasich had a change of heart. and he just realized that he was no longer able to get his message as sort of hope and unity. what he was candidacy. and i think when he makes his statement at 5:00 p.m., we'll see how he begins to navigate it. as you pointed out, this is particularly awkward because the republican convention is in john kasich's home state. he is the sitting governor of ohio. the convention will be in cleveland where donald trump puican nominee and so that's another thing he and his aides are going to have to grapple with is how

we first go to cnn political reporter sarah murray and you have talked to a number of women interviewed times" piece. what did they tell you about the interactions? >> some of the women had worked for mr. trump in the past, worked with trump in the past. and, you know, they agreed he could be boastful about the sexual exploits or his relationships with women. he definitely liked to be surrounded by beautiful women and at times say things that were offputting and a lot of women kept their heads down and looking at the women in the piece they aknock nlg given the high profile roles in the construction industry and when that was rare for women and felt like the opportunity outweighed the negatives and that, you know, donald trump kind of could be like this. he had a negative side for anyone whether that was men or women and, you know, a couple of the comments stuck with women more than others but, brooke, the other thing to point out is when the reporters were on, they spoke to dozens of women and clear that there were some in the story who felt that his comments or his actions, you know,

sara murray she's in new york and sarah, a busy day today for the trump campaign talking a lot about and picking a vice president. >> that's right, jake. even though campaign advisors, they are confirming what donald trump said to the associated press. he's narrowed down his list of five or six experienced politicians and a lot of people thought because chris christie was leading the transition team, he would be out of the running. they are saying that is not the case. he's not been ruled out and look, trump is looking for someone that is of course, qualified for this job but someone he feels personlly comfortable with and can enact his agenda. that doesn't necessarily mean someone with congressional experience. it could be a well-known governor but above all, a campaign advisor tells me they are not looking to panlder with this pick. they are not going to choose a woman to appeal to women and hispanic candidate because they are trying to appeal to hispanics. they are looking for someone that can help donald trump as he gets to washington as this outsider. >> sara murray with the tru
