instructions for the upcoming fiscal years presentlying today director sarah dennis phillips thank youor joining us. >> commissioners. thank you for having me today. >> hello. you are close to me i don't know fineed this. and i'm going to be less prepared than mirric who is our budget director will have a conflict and could not be here today. you know it is interesting where the wt left item in legacy businesses the changes many small businesses are having. in the same vairn that's when we will talk about with the budget not great news. you know and some of you may have read in the paper busy the mayor's budget direction. i will may be walk you through you know what we learned so you have the same information. and we can flip through some of it. so the fitsal out look is in the good. many of us were expecting this. it puts color on it. we are expecting almost 900 million dollars two year deficit. over 253 million deficit in this pending fiscal year coming. combh another over sick 25 million in year two 26/27. the reason for this is our expenditures as a city based on labor and costs wi

so i do want to appreciate sarah dennis phillips for the work that the office of economic and workforce development is doing to make those investments in the downtown and providing support in some of the new businesses that will be opening and those that have already opened. i've been hearing a lot of great things from so many of our retailers about the increase in sales, and we want to keep that going, so that's why we're stepping it up and making sure that downtown is not only a place to shop, but it's an inviting experience. and last but not least, to speak representing the recreation and park department, who's responsible for the union square garage in that particular location. please welcome kat anderson. i think it's still morning. good morning everybody. so i'm kat anderson, president of the commission. and also known as the recreation department of fun. we're here so honorably in in front of this beautiful fireplace and the marker hotel. again, thank you for the hosts and for the mayor for bringing us all together. you know, the union square area is not just a shopping mecca but

mayor london breed and her team, including sarah dennis phillips and the office of economic and workforcedevelopment, have been critical partners and champions of our work. they've allowed us to scale that work, and they've allowed us to provide critical support to small business owners that who define the economy, culture and identity of san francisco, sf new deal was born out of the crisis of the covid 19 pandemic, but over the past several years, small businesses have faced many and constantly shifting challenges. and sf new deal with the support of city hall and private funders like wells fargo and jp morgan chase, have worked to be responsive to the needs of small business owners and communities. since our founding in 2020, we have supported 656 businesses citywide, with $449.8 million of direct financial support. thank you. and in 2024 alone, again in partnership with the city, we've supported over 500 businesses with $6.4 million in direct financial resources that have supported storefront improvement grants. sf shine's capacity building, small business training grants, accessible
