i'm joined now by our reporter sarah walton, who is at today's protest in london.trees and containers they have moved onto the carriageway. if you come around in this direction, there are hundreds of people here. there is a stage down in that direction. a festival atmosphere. lots of people of all ages taking part. this is one of just a series of events taking place across the centre of london today by the group extinction rebellion. theiraim is to the group extinction rebellion. their aim is to cause mass disruption to the traffic, to try and bring the centre of london to a standstill, to try to prompt the government to take urgent action against climate change. this is the first protest we have seen from this group. —— mike this isn't the first protest. last november they blocked bridges over the thames. a week ago we saw semi naked holding up banners in the houses of parliament. this event and others taking place are peaceful and non—violent. there are police here but they are just monitoring the situation, staying back at the moment, allowing people to carry ou
