the last time anyone who loves savannah saw her alive. after eight days of searching for savannah by the family and the community, her body was finally found by chance by kayakers in a nearby river. her body was wrapped in plastic and duck taped. her death was an incredible tragedy and unfortunately one that happens way too often to native women. while news of savannah's tragic death was heard around the world, thousands of indigenous women are murdered and disappear each year. with many of those cases being ignored or forgotten. over my decades in public service, i have worked with tribal communities on issues that involve violence against native women, and in response to those talks and to this latest tragedy, today i introduce legislation that would help tackle the barriers to bringing justice for missing and murdered native women across the country. my bill which is named after savannah would work to improve tribal access to federal data bases for missing persons. it would promote interjurisdictional collaboration by establishing prot

for her, for savannah, there's a long road to recovery. she is on the road right now driving back from las vegas to sonoma county. she is studying to become a teach you but taking a break from the studies because of her medical situation and she hopes to be able to return to school soon. as for the bullet in her back, she doesn't even know if that's going to be removed or not. she has to see a specialist when she gets back to the bay area to determine the risk it could pose to her spine. if there is no risk, doctors may determine, she tells me, that it simply is better to leave it in her body. but she will have to be checked periodically over the course of the rest of her life to see if that bullet moves and presents further risks. so she has a long uncertain future ahead with her injury. >> ken, i'm just wondering your thoughts there being down on the las vegas strip with the mandalay bay behind you and the streets closed off and -- and -- and the -- the makeshift memorial if you will right at your feet. what are your thoughts? >> reporte

>> couple of things, savannah. there were a couple of off-duty police officers, who were attending the concert, like anybody else, from a number of different law enforcement associations. a number of them were involved in the shooting. two of their officers were on duty during the concert. one had minor injuries. the other is in stable condition after surgery, they say. there were police officers who were wounded, as well, as concertgoers. we don't believe there were any police officers, at least we haven't ind -- no indication that any were wounded or injured when they blew the door off stephen paddock's hotel room this morning and shot and killed him. and inside the room, they say they found a cache of weapons. multiple weapons. one question that's arisen this morning is, how was it that he was able to achieve such lethal results, given how far away he was, from the concert location? we don't know precisely how it was because until the sun comes up and we can get a good idea of where the room was in comparison to
