we break it down this monday morning with garrett haake and savannah sellers. and the current principle at nicker booker. and maria teresa kumar, an msnbc contributor. ms. sellers, we'll start with you, i know you just talked to bern bernie sanders. he is in that thursday night debate. what did he tell you? >> i sat down with senator sanders as well as representative omar to discuss this college for all act that they're unveiling today. the idea is that it would make tuition and fees totally eliminated for students who want to go to college and also it would completely cancel student debt. now, that's about $1.52 trillion worth of debt. the difference here is that free college would actually be available to all income levels. and i asked him, because as we all know he's somebody who points out the great economic differences in this country, why should that be available to all americans, is it a freebie for wealthy americans? >> every person in this country who has the desire and the ability should be able to get a higher education and that's not just college. t

savannah and jose for the first hour. chuck and me moderating for the second hour. who is on the stage? much harder question. thankfully that is for the dnc, the democratic party to figure out. you may have noticed there are a couple dozen declared candidates for the democratic presidential nomination. there's only going to be 20 slots for the first debate. ten the first night and ten the second night. over the next few days the dnc will announce which 20 of the democratic candidates are going to be making the stage for that first two-night debate. the criteria for people was announced back in february. they announced back then to make the debate candidates could qualify for the debate if you get 1 % or more in three polls. the polls have to either be national polls or polls from one of the four early states, iowa, new hampshire, south carolina, or nevada. that's only one track. if you can't make that polling threshold, again, 1 % in three polls, there is a second path set by the dnc which is a fundraising path. you can also qualify for the debate even if you don't
