residents, businesses and ports are preparing and morgan brennan is riding out the storm in savannah, ge >> reporter: stateicials warned of heavy rains, possible tornadoes, power outages and perhaps most pressingly, the potential for flooding with as many as 15 inches of rainfall expected in some isolated areas. the governors of florida, georgia and south carolina declared states of emergencies and in florida at least one storm-related death was confirmed as but hermine barrels up the eastern seaboard, property insurance companies are preparing for claims. throughout the region, schools and businesses were closed even the port of savannah. began closing down operations last night and two hours north of here in charleston, they closed down operations midday today. in florida, officials are concerned about another natural threat, as well. that's pools of standing water could lead to the spread of the zika virus. but here in savannah, many visitors are stranded many staying in the hotels here along downtown's riverfront. the savannah airport is operating but a number of flights canceled, most notably flights

landfall as a hurricane here in florida, it will be the first hurricane to hit the state in nearly 11 years. savannah? >> all right. gabe gutierrez, thank you. >> al is here and he's going to some pretty big problems for what millions of people up and down the coast. >> that's it exactly. it's been 11 years since a hurricane has hit florida. this could strengthen as gabe mentioned to a category 1. latest on hermine, 250 miles south/southwest of florida. looking at the path right now, we expect landfall sometime late this afternoon just to the east continues inland until early saturday morning and comes out around the carolina coast but look at this cone of uncertainty that widens out. after early sunday morning, washington, d.c., philadelphia, new york, parts of connecticut, providen, all of the way up to boston all have to worry about this system. now, for the first time in four years, we've got a hurricane warning in effect along the gulf coast from panama city down to spring hill. we've got tropical storm warnings as well and we also have to worry about the risk of storm surge. that's when all the
