mark sayre tells us tonight, the city is talking about more police officers. mark? >> reporter: well ken, san jose city officials are working through their budget process right now the bring more resources to the police. but as you know, politics is a slow process and criminals take any opportunity that they can find. two criminals entered through an unlocked screen door at this home in the evergreen neighborhood of san jose. they did not know it, but several members of the family were home at the time and on the phone trying to get help. vice mayor rose hererra knows one of the victims and understands the residents' concerns. >> i don't know if you have been a victim of burglary, but i have. >> reporter: mayor same liccardo is working to settle a dispute with budget reforms and more police overtime. but will it all be enough? >> there is no question that we want more police officers.

mark sayre is at sfo to find out what happened. mark? >> reporter: well ken, the airline is saying one thing, but fellow passengers who were also on the plane have a very different version of events of what happened on the tarmac at sfo. sarah blackwood is a musician with the canadian band walk off the earth. she is seven months pregnant and boarded a flight to vancouver with her two-year-old son. >> he was having a fussy day. he was loud, squirming. >> reporter: she told the cbc in canada what happened next. >> then they turned the plane around. went back to the gate and asked me to leave the plane after he had fallen asleep. >> reporter: she tweeted just got off a flight because my son was crying loud. and my two-year-old crying son was a big threat to united. my two-year-old a threat? kicked i us off the plane. sky west airlines says despite numerous requests, the child was not seated and was repeatedly in the aisle of the aircraft before departure. the crew made the appropriate decision to return to the gate in the interest of safety

live in san mateo, i'm mark sayre, kpix 5. >>> another whale has washed ashore on a bay area beach. this one discovered at half moon bay. chopper 5 flew over the 40-foot adult gray whale as it rolled in the surf. now, officials say that carcass is very decomposed and could make it hard to determine the cause of death but it's the 6th one to wash ashore recently. in pacifica crews were dealing with two whales that have been rotting on the beach. there have been tons of complaints from neighbors about the smell. the original plan was to let them decompose but today crews dug a huge hole in the sand for both carcasses. >>> the owner of the new england patriots says he is not putting up a fight. he will accept the nfl punishment for the "deflate- gate" scandal. they have a $1 million fine. tom brady was suspended for four games and the team also lost two draft picks for using underinflated footballs deer the afc championship. today robert kraft spoke in san francisco where nfl team owners gathered for the spring meeting. he says he disagreed with the part but wants to put the "deflate-g

at sfo, i'm mark sayre kpix 5. >>> mysterious balls of goo in los angeles county.gers of blame are waving over the big oil spill off the santa barbara county coast. anne makovec has the latest from the newsroom. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it took more than 3 hours to activate a comprehensive response to that spill and california senators say that was insufficient. here's the timeline as we know it. problems were detected with the line at 11:30 a.m. and it took two hours to find the actual break. that's 1:30 p.m. and it wasn't reported to the feds until almost 3 p.m. senators boxer and feinstein are asking the feds to give more details on the response by the company plains all american pipeline. this happened near goleta on may 19. crude spilled down a culvert and into the ocean off of the santa barbara county coast leaving beaches black and created a slick 10 square miles into the pacific. farther south beaches along the los angeles county coastline remain closed this morning as the coast guard investigates balls of tar that have been washing ashore.
