at sfo, i'm mark sayre kpix 5. >>> mysterious balls of goo in los angeles county.gers of blame are waving over the big oil spill off the santa barbara county coast. anne makovec has the latest from the newsroom. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it took more than 3 hours to activate a comprehensive response to that spill and california senators say that was insufficient. here's the timeline as we know it. problems were detected with the line at 11:30 a.m. and it took two hours to find the actual break. that's 1:30 p.m. and it wasn't reported to the feds until almost 3 p.m. senators boxer and feinstein are asking the feds to give more details on the response by the company plains all american pipeline. this happened near goleta on may 19. crude spilled down a culvert and into the ocean off of the santa barbara county coast leaving beaches black and created a slick 10 square miles into the pacific. farther south beaches along the los angeles county coastline remain closed this morning as the coast guard investigates balls of tar that have been washing ashore.
