scarlett: they sent out the first quarter letter to investors., he talks about his views for the overall market saying they are finding opportunity on stocks in the u.s. specifically to the united states, he says he remains constructive on the u.s. and economic data should improve. a june rate type is unlikely. you're looking at shares of llama -- yum. the firm holds a significant stake in yum brands. they began their position in the first quarter on the view that yum is in the early stages of turning the page on its troubled china business. he explains why the company is in a position to change its fortunes in china. he also began a position in debin energy so we see a move in that stock. it should be dev equity. dvn. we will pull this up. if you look at how the price there is moving, it is up about 4/10 of 1% so not as large again as yum. but third point is beginning a position and that energy company saying he sees value there. overall, the take away from the download letter to investors as they are finding opportunities in stock in the u.s. a

scarlett: this is "market makers." there was a selloff yesterday with the nasdaq rising for the first time this week. let's get to some nasdaq companies. expedia gained as much as 8.8% ending a six-day losing streak. they beat analyst estimates and gross bookings rose 19% and there was no change to the full-year outlook. the fact that it did not reduce its outlook like other tech companies, that's good enough for a big gain in the stock, up 6% right now. they say they plan to close orbitz by the end of this year. altera went above $44 on reports that intel wanted to i it and it is above $45 on a report that talks between the chip may begin again in a few weeks. there were several reports that indicated intel had discussed offering $58 per share before it had access to the books. it was after it signed a nondisclosure agreement that intel revised its offer lower reportedly to $54 per share. we will have more "on the markets" when we return. >> live from bloomberg headquarters in new york, this is "market makers," with e

scarlett: $.78 per share was the adjusted earnings for the quarter, that is higher than what analystsor cbs, they were looking for $.75 and that is basically in line again, analysts were looking for a drop. in terms of revenue, that decline, but it is higher than what analysts were looking for, and in looking for a reason why revenues were down, it is interesting here, because cbs said the quarter was affected by the broadcasted viewer and the playoff game, so one less layoff game with the nfl accounted for the drop in revenue from the same time a year ago, also, they had lower advertising revenue at the local level as well, and in terms of different divisions, it was higher than anticipated in entertainment, and that is higher than the average analyst estimate, and publishing with less than anticipated, versus the consensus estimate. alix: thank you so much, scarlet. cliff, can you wind this down, what has been that the guest take away? has the stronger dollar affected companies as much? cliff: it has not, we are stronger than we were a month ago, and the first quarter was projected
