. >>> let's check with our bonnie schneider because we have been talking about that threatening storm in the gulf but now there is another potential disturbance and this is taking place in florida. what is it? >> it's actually related because we're getting some of those outer band from the disturbance in the gulf and onshore in florida and what happens is you get, when the storms come onshore we often get tornadoes and we've had one law enforcement official report the sighting of a tornado near tamiany trail and rattle snake road in collier county in southwest florida. you can see this tornado warning actually had twop, one just expired, but this is for central collier county. northward still some very strong thunderstorms in ft. myers as well but as i open up this wide you can see some the heavy bands of rain coming up from the south as this system, which is so widespread, really is enhancing moisture. so the threat for tornadoes will continue into the afternoon and evening hours with this system. any moment now we could get word from the national hurricane center on whether or not t

meteorologist bonny schneider is joining us. will the weather hurt or help their efforts? >> unfortunately, randi, i think it will hurt their efforts. it's been so hot and so dry over not just colorado, but really the entire region. when you combine that with strong, gusty winds that bring about those sparks into the air and the embers can catch on, plenty of vegetation in advance, that's why you see such a widespread areas of concern. and ft. collins randi mentioned, that's one place that will heat up in terms of temperatures, all the way to 100. colorado is not the only state. we also have it in utah. a lot of people have been evacuated due to the wildfire burning. incredible pictures of widespread flames. when you look at the hyde park fire in colorado, you can see the tens of thousands of acres that have been burned and how much containment has already been contained, but really the cost to date is over $21.6 million. so the wildfire costs have been a huge concern this season and we're still early in the season. temperatures are likely to go up as we go into the summer

bonnie schneider is in our meteorologist center this mornin morning. >> randi, right now, we are king quite a bit of extreme weather. let's look at the tropical threat. morgan city further to the west. you can see new orleans is not in the tropical storm warnings. we are expecting tropical storm force winds within the next 24 hours across much of this region, meaning winds as strong as 39 miles an hour. let's take a closer look at debby, where the storm is right now. you can see a lot of the convection is impacting florida at thitime. this storm is forecast to work its way to the west. maximum winds at 50 miles an hour, 55 miles an hour gusts slow movement to the north at 3 miles an hour. that storm is barely moving. let's look at the track. the track is westward. here's something interesting we have today we didn't have yesterday. it is forecast to become a category 1 hurricane within the next ce of days. even by es possibly b tuesday. it's a slow, slow movement south of louisiana. we don't know where the storm will actually pact. that's a good point because the cone of uncertainty d

let's bring in meteorologist bonnie schneider.ditions cooperate, in trying to put out that fire? >> lightning strikes actually ignited two fires. that, plus these hot temperatures we've been experiencing and dry conditions, it's so dry across the southwest, that any little spark of flame innights a huge fire. that's why it's only 17% contained because it's so large and massive. it's about 250 miles south of albuquerque. this is a lot of thick smoke. unfortunately it might get worse before it gets better. because the fire is so widespread and conditions are not favorable in terms of getting a heavy burst of rain, we'll get that in the monsoon season in july, i think the fire will continue to be a big problem over the next couple weeks. you can see very little change in the weather conditions with high temperatures at 91. this is better than last week where we had numbers in the triple digits and more gusty winds, fredricka. but definitely not the kind of weather they're looking for. on the positive side, though, without a thunderst
