curley and schultz have pleaded not guilty. and then you have jerry sandusky, the man whose sick urges led to all of this. he is awaiting sentencing. he could get more than 400 years for his conviction on all 45 counts. but today's report, it's actually less about him and more about what his bosses did or really failed to do. these findings here are really just another damning blow to the legacy of this man, joe paterno, who knew about sandusky, long before he admitted it. that's according to this report. and investigators, they sifted through more than 3.5 million -- let me say that again, sifting through more than 3.5 million e-mails, other documents. they say really all of this adds up to a portrait of willful ignorance among the top brass at penn state. investigators say they found a striking lack of everyone think for child abuse victims. a president who discouraged discussion and dissent. a lack of awareness of child abuse issues. and a culture of reverence for the football program at every level of the campus. i want to

gary schultz, the former vice president. all of them have denied wrongdoing. joe paterno, the legendary and revered football coach who died last january. >> there's more red flags here than you could count. >> reporter: several of the more than 3 million e-mails and documents unearthed by freeh's investigators, show paterno, contrary to his grand jury testimony, was informed and kept apprised of a 1998 police investigation of suspected child abuse by sandusky in the school's locker room shower. curley wrote in one e-mail to spanier and schultz that he had touched base with paterno about the probe. and days later there was this follow-up -- anything new in this department? coach is anxious to know where it stands. the allegation was disturbing enough that schultz, who was in charge of the university police, wrote in private notes, is this opening of pandora's box? adding, other children? but no charges were brought and university officials kept it quiet. >> nobody even spoke to sandusky, not one of those four persons, including the coach, who was a few steps aw

schultz and curley are charged with perjury. and failing to report the abuse.erry sandusky of course was convicted last month of 45 counts of sexually abusing boys over a 15-year period. he could be sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison. it's probably inevitable he will be. the question is for how many years. judge freeh said the four penn state officials were aware of a 1998 criminal investigation of sandusky on allegations of sexually abusing a boy in a locker room shower but failed to take action. a report noted the following. report by a young boy's mother of a possible sexual assault by sandusky in the lasch buildi on may 3rd, 1998. on may 5, 1998, schultz' notes about the incident state, is this opening up pandora's box? other children, question mark. the report went on to say spanier, schultz, paterno and curley took no action to limit sandusky's access to penn state's facilities or took any measures to protect children on the campuses. the report also looks extensively at the incident that took place on february 9, 2001. that's when graduate

schultz and mr. curley? >> it's something that's always been difficult for me to really kind of take in since the allegations have been made and the charges have been brought. gary schultz has served the university for years. almost two or three decades as the senior vice president of finance and business. someone that i have worked with. and tim curley was a highly honored athletic director. and it is very, very surprising to hear that anything like this were ever to happen. but fundamentally, what it comes down to is the safety of children. if in any way someone knew that children were in danger, even had the slightest inkling that children were in danger and did nothing about it, it's absolutely disgusting to me. and i hope that's not the case. and i hope from working with them that i would be thoroughly surprised if they did know. and chose to cover it up. but if the report today shows that there was some sort of information, they knew it, and they did nothing about the potential endangerment of children
