schuylkill expressway again portions of the schuylkill still snow covered because again as quickly as those plow trains go through, another 15 minutes and then we have the roads snow covered again. an accident southbound on the 42 freeway here as you work your way down toward route 55, right in the center lane. keep in mind underneath that snow covered roadway is some ice. they have put down the salt and brine last night. if that did anything to the first couple of flakes it turned it into moisture but that quickly at 14 degrees lot of the roadways have refrozen, with a fine sheet of ice underneath that light puffy snow. 3 inches of snow in bear, delaware, check in on twitter. watch yourself up on route one. philly international has had some cancellation from his last night for flights today. so cancellations and delays expected at the airport. your best bet just check with the airline before you head down to philly international. again, all of the pennsylvania major roadways, penndot has reduced the speed officially to 45 miles an hour. as you can see here, 18 miles an hour most like

the main roads like the schuylkill, the expressways they're fairing pretty well.ed out because the cars are constantly traveling on them and we have those winds helping them to dry out and they've been heavily salted. really it's where you see the slush, that's where we have the concern. 36 in philadelphia right now 23 new york city, two below in burlington but you factor in the wind and you can see that storm right there deepening just to the east of boston. we have those winds funneling in around that low and that is dropping wind chills to nine in new york city, 23 philadelphia, 18 below in syracuse, 22 below in burlington so this storm means business with its cold air that is flooding in as it is strengthening and departing. so that flash freeze we're expecting a 10-degree drop in temperature in a matter of a couple hours. again it's untreated surfaces with the slush and the standing water that would freeze over, especially the driveways and the sidewalks. if it looks wet to you as you're driving, just assume that it is icy and take extreme caution this evenin

the ramp from penrose avenue to the schuylkill eastbound is shut down.om broad street to the schuylkill eastbound instead. we're also looking at some slow speeds, 16 miles an hour i-95 southbound near girard about 19 on the schuylkill westbound near bala cynwyd, about 21 on the schuylkill eastbound near girard so slow speeds through that region. chopper 6 was also overhead of a tanker truck fire from yesterday. look how huge this is. affected traffic all day yesterday but still affecting traffic this morning. this is in pennsauken in camden county and it's blocking the ramp at this point connecting 90 eastbound with 130 in pennsauken. instead of those ramps watch out and expect those delays coming off of the betsy ross bridge. you want to use 73 southbound instead. all traffic being diverted onto union avenue. the ramp connecting 90 eastbound with 130 still shut down because of this huge tanker fire from yesterday. we have been tweeting all the traffic with the hashtag 6abc traffic so that's a great way to get all the updates matt. >> thanks karen. >>> t

schuylkill expressway looking good in and out of town. we're in the 50's a across the board on all of the major roadways. lets zoom into our top story. we will go outside to a live shot from steve in a second but 52nd street block between spruce and locust. also some of the surrounding streets are shut down as well, with this two alarm fire. hoses across the the intersections and route 52 busies also on a due tore, used in 54th street instead of 52nd street. the that is only about two blocks from the market frankford line and the 52nd street station just to give you a idea. if you are taking someone to drop them off at fifth second street station you'll get stuck in that detour. there is another fire this one in north philadelphia, erie avenue between 17th and 18th, and if you are using mass transit bundle up, because there could be, additional time in between the buses and trains because everybody is running on a holiday schedule today like buses, trains, trolleys for september, even new jersey transit running on a special holiday schedu
