. >> let's begin with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz tracking the snow with your most accurate weather forecast. >> looks like in a good bit of the area, this will be the biggest snow of the winter season so far. a lot of these places haven't gotten very much. we've issued a first alert for thursday snow for the entire area except for the jersey shore and the delaware beaches. 4:00 a.m. to noon. it's not an all-day event. we've got accumulating snow, heavy at times especially during the morning rush. slick roads and poor visibility especially during the morning rush. let's take a look at hour by hour as we go through tomorrow. here comes the snow. not until overnight tomorrow night. there's 3:00 a.m., the darker blue indicates heavier snow. it's 6:00 a.m. some of the heaviest snow and the whole storm going all the way down to dover and just about to atlantic city. it will cover much of the area for just about the entire morning, and then finally moves off shore in the afternoon. so it starts as rain around midnight in at least parts of the area. snow begins north and w

. >> let's get the timing for your neighborhood, chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with your most accurate first alert forecast. >> we are expecting some rain to move in it's certainly been a beautiful day and a lot of sunshine still shining down on the ben franklin bridge here. temperatures in the 50s in most of the area, 52 in philadelphia. we got up to 54 for a high today. 48 in allentown, even mount pocono at 40 degrees. this gives you an idea of how warm the atmosphere is. nothing on radar close by, almosting into west virginia now. not all that heavy. more building up around cincinnati so that whole system is strengthening a little bit and we do expect it to move in but this would be well after midnight so your evening plans are just fine, but as we go into the start of the morning rush, you can see some of this rain moving in. once again not especially heavy but it's covering many counties special from philadelphia northward just in time for that morning rush and the temperatures, well they're not going to be dropping a whole lot that's for sure as we go thro

nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking a big drop in temperatures in your most accurate weather forecast. >> yeah, it's definitely going to feel a whole lot colder tomorrow morning by the time you get up than what we saw this morning. the flags showing the wind coming in and it's bringing in some colder air. not that cold yet, 45 degrees in philadelphia. above average for this time of the year. down to 39 in coatesville. 38 in allentown. but the big change is going to be coming during the night tonight. the average high temperature is 41 for this time of the year. yesterday 50, today 46. look at the next two days, friday and saturday, those are the high temperatures. lows will be in the teens before we start coming back up a little bit on sunday. as we go through the night tonight, you can see that temperature drop pretty sharply. we've seen some nights where hardly it's going down autoalt . we have a little bit of wind in the morning so it will feel like it's in the teens. expect it to be dry through the night and into tomorrow. but this is just th

with ebegin with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. what can we expect? >> we'll be getting a pretty big snowstorm in time for the morning rush. i know it was in the 60s today. it doesn't seem like it's possible, but it is. it has happened before. most recently about ten years ago. if it's happened before, it can happen again. and all indications are it will. heaviest snow between 5:00 and 9:00 a.m. peak snow at two to three inches per hour, with possible thunder snow, low visibilities, making travel really treacherous for at least a short period of time. about 1:30, 2:00 in the morning, the snow is already starting in the lehigh valley and berks county. eventually rain will change over, close to a changeover in parts of the philadelphia area. by 6:00 a.m., it's clearly changed over to snow. and that is probably about the peak of the storm. 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 a.m. getting some of the heaviest snow. you also see it ending from the west by 10:00 a.m. this is not an all-day event. it's mostly just the morning thing. if you adjust your schedules, to be able to

meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz tells us how long the rain will last in his most accurate first alert neighborhood forecast. >> this area of rain has nothing to do with the severe weather we're talking about for tomorrow. this is a separate area. you can see it's really knocked down the visible out there. some of this rain is on the heavy side, not just where jim is in washington. look at this. in parts of chester county, delaware county, south philly, center city getting some moderate to heavy rain right now. now, this is not going to last all night, but as you can see it's moving straight west to east. and so the same areas are getting hit by the heaviest rain over and over again. so you're going to be getting a good bit of rain in philadelphia and much of delaware. in the lehigh valley, you're getting nothing. back to the west, you can see there's more rain coming in ohio. maybe the lehigh valley will get a little bit of that later on tonight. as we go through the night tonight, you can see the future weather computer showing the heaviest rain in central and southern delaware

we begin with nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> you were right about the timing of the storm. it was quick. now we're getting ready for the bitter blast you told us about. >> yeah, it was only a couple or a few hours at most of really hazardous conditions. really had a problem with the airports all over the northeast. but things are returning to normal. at least in philadelphia. but the temperatures are way below normal now. 30 degrees in philadelphia. 25 in allentown. and look at the difference since this time yesterday. 35 degrees colder. 37 degrees colder in vineland. and even that doesn't tell the whole story. because the wind is still pretty powerful, gusting to 44 miles per hour in millville. 45 in atlantic city. 37 in philadelphia. we've seen gusts close to 50 miles per hour. the feels like temperatures, it went from 66 at 3:00 yesterday to 32 this morning. to 16 at 9:00 a.m. in a span of 18 hours, it fell 50 degrees. now what happens is, with the cold, and with nightfall, anything that's around that's moist is going to freeze. any slush is goin

let's go to glenn "hurricane" schwartz. he's got a good answer.of people here are talking about a drop in temperatures. perhaps in time for the puck drop tomorrow night at 8:00. >> yeah. and i think that is the case. we are going to have a dramatic change. not only in the philadelphia area but also in pittsburgh where it's near 80 degrees right now, believe it or not. this line of showers and storms getting into ohio, that is going to change the whether in pittsburgh. so they're -- change the weather in pittsburgh. so they're going to get brief heavy rain tonight. then look at what is going to happen to the temperature. dropping through the 60s tonight. by tomorrow morning into the 50s. by 1:00 tomorrow, 46. by 9:00 tomorrow, 32 degrees. that temperature is going to drop 40 degrees from where it is now -- more than 40, from where it is now to when they're playing the game tomorrow. so the timing is pretty good for them. if they were playing tonight, forget it. >> reporter: exactly. the guy in charge of the ice, he's got a lot on his plate. we're g

chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the forecast. >> it's going to feel like single digits for some areas? >> that's right. that ice is not going to be melting during the night tonight or tomorrow morning. see the flags, by now, blowing this direction, that's cold air that's coming in. today was way colder than it has been lately. it's 30 in coatesville and allentown right now, 34 in philadelphia. that's as about as high as it's gotten all day today. mount holly 33. trenton, 32 degrees. now, if you compare that to 24 hours ago, 11 degrees colder in philadelphia. wilmington, dover, and 13 degrees colder than it was at this time yesterday in atlantic city. you add the wind on top of that. so what's going to happen is we go through the evening. you head out, even in the city of philadelphia, the temperature goes down into the 20s. and the feels like temperature into the teens. of course it continues to get colder throughout the night. by 7:00 a.m., 23 degrees. and feels like it is 13. in some places like allentown, it will feel like it's about 8 degrees. we expect dry c
