>> well, not as far as we know right now, scott. u.s.d british sources tell us that they have no specific information at the moment about any possible terror threat aimed at the olympics. but the games, which obviously will attract huge crowds and worldwide attention, are a target. so u.k. officials now are standing up their biggest peacetime security operation in history. antiaircraft missile batteries, for example, are stationed on roof tops in london and in public squares near the olympic venues. we're told more than 40,000 security forces-- troops, police, private guards-- will be on duty when the games begin. >> pelley: is there anything that makes london particularly vulnerable? >> well, a couple of things. terrorists, as we know, have already proven they can hit that city. more than 50 people tragically were killed seven years ago in what has been known as the 7/7 transit bombings. also, london has a large population of suspected his lomb i can radicals, many of them with ties to terror hot spots like pakistan. finally, on top of

captioning sponsored by cbs this is the "cbs evening news" with scott pelley. james holmes heard charges today that could cost him his life if he is convicted in the colorado theatre massacre. prosecutors presented well over 100 charges in court today. 12 counts of premeditated murder. one for each of the people who died. and 12 counts of murder with extreme indifference to human life, again one for each of the dead. those charges carry the death penalty. holmes is also charged with 116 counts of attempted murder. two counts for each of the people prosecutors say were injured, two counts each because the prosecutors haven't decided which law they will use at trial. some victims and some relative-- relatives were in the courtroom in centennial colorado and so was john blackstone. john, what did you see? >> scott, well, james holmes still has orange hair and he looked as if he hasn't shaved since he was arrested. but in court today he showed no emotion. and he stared up at the ceiling. he often opened his eyes very wide for no apparent reason. but he never made e

scott scott in florida and terry branstad. there is a set of new possible waivers by the federal government of work requirementsurped welfare reform . this would apire on the surface to be simply a case of the states getting more flexibility in how they administer the work requirements for receiving welfare benefits. governor scott, how do you see the waivers. some people say it is going to gut the law. >> unfortunately it is a huge step in the wrong direction . i was governor along with tommy thompson and governor engler in michigan. we worked with president clinton to get the welfare moved from entitlement program to a program that focused on job training and work. and we helped to move millions of people off of the welfare rolls boo permanent employment. we reduced the cost of medicare. we see this administration trying to get it. i think it is illegal because it is in the law . i don't think they have a right to waive it. tommy thompson is thinking about suing them over it it is absolutely wrong and a move in the wrong dir
