what has been your role in scott prouty's story? >> well, i -- i don't want to speak necessarily about my role. i talk about our union's role. through our relationship with charlie kernagen and the institute for global human rights, we got to meet scott during the inauguration festivities in washington and got to sit down with him and talk about his views about life and his respect for charlie and what charlie does every day going around world trying to help people who are working in terrible conditions. and scott managed to see charlie's work on that very same factory that romney was talking about. and you and i did a show on that, i think, at some point in time where that factory was purchased by romney's bermuda corporation. and when charlie put that out, he and scott connected. and through our relationship with charlie, we got to meet scott. and i'm happy to say that scott is now going to come and work for the united steel workers. and we're going to do everything we can to help him to make sure he gets the kind of support he ne

scott? >> pelley: nancy, thanks very much. so why did this happen? in the end the impasse was over taxes. mr. obama insists on raising new tax revenue by closing loopholes that favor corporations and the rich. republicans say they already compromised on taxes in january when rates went up on the wealthiest americans and payroll taxes increased for nearly all working americans. last month, as the deadlock hardened, we spoke to john boehner, the republican speaker of the house, and to president obama. >> the question is, if we're going to be serious about reducing our deficit can we combine some smart spending cuts-- because there's still some waste in government-- can we reform our health care programs in particular? there are things we can do to reduce health care costs. and can we close some loopholes and deductions that folks who are well connected and have a lot of accountants and lawyers can take advantage of so they end up paying lower rates than a bus driver or a cop. >> pelley: so you think there is going to have to be additional revenue over

you know, old rick scott. there is a job in florida called lieutenant governor, but there is nobody in that job. the job is vacant. help wanted. last week, governor rick scott is reported to have stared stone faced at the florida press corps roast while poking fun at the tension between him and the lieutenant governor. the joke was supposed to be the lieutenant governor was demanding respect from rick scott. she was dressed up kind of aretha franklin style. what everybody in that room did not know, the lieutenant governor, jennifer carroll, is that she had only hours earlier signed a resignation letter while seated at a small table in her office, then handed it to the general council. florida's lieutenant governor had already resigned and they didn't know she was gone. reporters up there, but the lieutenant governor had booked. the next day when the news broke that she had quit, that she had resigned, governor scott issued a statement in which he said that the lieutenant governor had left elected office, left

scott prouty decided to go public now and say who he is. he decided not to do it at the time of the election. did you engage with him or have insight on what he felt about the decision? >> there was a lot of angst. i have a story up on the mother jones site that goes into that. this is more his story to tell than mine. during the campaign, before the campaign was over, you know, media folks were coming to me, trying to reach him or reaching him making all sorts of offers if he would go public some involving money and other benefits. he time and time again said he didn't want to make himself the story. he didn't want to distract from mitt romney's own words. also, if he went public, he would be a bulls eye on his target. rush limbaugh would try to make him the story. i don't know if there's dirt on him. didn't seem that way tonight. i think it's hard to stay in the shadows. when everyone is talking about this. imagine the conversations you must have in this situation with people around you. god, did you hear about the tape? did you see it on

scott hagy. >> welcome scott hagy >> small business california, i think most of you may be aware does a survey every year of small business positions and we just finished our 8th annual survey. we received 1300 responses, a little over 1300. and with my received responses from every county in the state. this is used to set our agenda and a copy of the survey goes to every state assembly person, senator and to the governor's people and it's also used by staff in the staffing some of the committees. so i think you have all got a copy of the survey. i am just briefly going to hit on some highlights real quickly. as i said we look at issues, and for the 8th year in a row the access and cost of health has come out no. 1 after the economy. the economy is a little bit broad to deal with. that was no. 1. but health was came as far as something that we can do something about. the interesting one for no. 2 and this is the third or fourth year in a row that the quality of public education came out no. 2 and i think when people talk about small business issue, they don't think about that one. no.
