one other thing, scott. security for this race normally is extraordinarily tight and before the race is run there are bomb sniffing dogs that go the entire route into the city. you have e.o.d. teams that do the same thing. but after the race starts people are allowed to carry backpacks with them and that's -- you've got a lot of colleges in this area that feed in, a lot of people coming in to cheer people on, bringing food and refreshments for runners. that's when what they believe happened is that somebody carried the backpack in after the race had started, planted those bombs or devices in a trash can along the route where the spectators were sitting and just a few feet from where the runners were going by. there were thousands more spectators sitting along the sidewalk cheering them on. it didn't happen that way and if there was ever a silver lining-- and in this case there isn't really one-- that would be the only thing that you could point to to say this could have been so much worse. scott? >> pelley:
