scott, i know you've been talking to people. what reactions are you hearing now? >> hey, anderson.s a pretty remarkable scene and i want to show you quickly, they're trying to clear people out because of the volume of people who have come to lay flowers and you can see how many there are here, and i have to tell you, just when the news started to spread outside of the castle, it was a -- an incredible scene. the flag was lowered to half staff and a rainbow appeared from right behind it. i wouldn't have believed it had i not seen it with my own eyes. they're trying to move the crowd back right now to the statue at the edge of the road, but i spoke to this woman earlier, michelle, and it was just a couple months ago that you actually got to see the queen in-person for the opening of a hospice. what was that like? >> oh, amazing. she was in great -- we didn't know it was going to be her. we were told it was a, you know, vip celebrity, but i just kind of knew it would be her because it's something special to her and i just had a feeling, so i was like, right, i've definitely got to be

joining us now is scott anderson, the chief economist and executive vice president at bank of the west. scott, thanks so much for joining us. let's get right to it. first, break down what is expected today and is this going to be an even bigger interest rate hike than originally expected? >> thanks for having me on, marcus. yeah, the fed has more work to do to bring inflation under control. we expect another big rate hike from the fed today, another 75 basis points and probably another big hike in november and december. maybe not as big as three-quarters of a percentage point increase we're going to see today but maybe another half a percentage point in november and another in december so the fed funds rate, the short-term rates, are likely to be above 4% by the end of the year. >> are we expecting this to inch even closer to that possibility of a recession? >> yeah, the risk is quite high going from a boom situation raising the risk of a bust. the fed is squarely focused on bringing inflation down even if it causes pain to the economy which probably means some layoffs and probably an
