scott budman has been on this story throughout the day and joins us from yahoo! headquarters in sunnyvale. what does this mean for everyone? >> reporter: we know the hackers were able to convince yahoo! servers that users were already online so they didn't to have worry about any passwords. they were just able to get access to valuable data. we now know a lot more about the massive 2014 hack that hit yahoo! and the news is not good. >> these hackers compromised the account information of at least 500 million users. >> reporter: two russian hackers and two agents of the russian federal securities service got into those yahoo! accounts accessing personal data like addresses and phone numbers. the silicon valley's fbi office says they worked with yahoo! for two years to track source of the data theft. >> we want to send a clear message to criminal hackers everywhere. you can try to hide in the corners of the dark web but we will hunt you down, we will expose you and we will bring you to justice. >> reporter: as to why the russians hacked into yahoo! -- >> they can h

scott budman joins us now from the flood zone with more. >> reporter: good evening. the city says it will do a better job of, among other things, monitoring the water level of coyote creek and om ma den reservoir. say they'll do a better job of getting the word out. san jose is still cleaning its flood ravaged neighborhoods one month later. this resident showed us his entire downstairs still unlivable and the city admits it did not give people enough time to get out. >> the warning system that we had in place at the time of the floods was wholly inadequate. >> the san jose mayor san liccardo and the city are rolling out a warning system for the area. the so-called threat matrix calls for flyers and messaging with color coded timetables. a yellow alert will be issued 48 to 72 hours in advance of possible flooding. an orange alert issued 12 to 24 hours in advance. and a red alert issued four to six hours before a possible flood. >> that includes electronic communications throughout the media. but i think most importantly the low tech solutions, knocking on doors in com

business and tech reporter scott budman is in the newsroom. you got to see the drone in action? >> the goal is very terrestrial. fly around and detect the harmful gases. it's a lightweight space-age drone coming to a neighborhood near you to fly around and detect methane gas. >> we got another hit. >> pg&e is working with nasa to test this drone which is similar to a craft used to detect methane on mars. >> these experiments are important to demonstrate that this is a good technology that can be used for public safety and reduces pollution. >> this drone has sensors that can detect even tiny amounts of methane in the air as it flies. >> really trusting their measurements and saying confidently that this is where the leak is and we can then send boots on the ground to pinpoint it to find the true location. >> eventually the goal is to sell the drone so you and ki do our own testing. >> pg&e, nasa, everybody is interested in seeing this thing commercialized. >> if you're interested, no word on pricing yet. but pg&e says the drone was able to detect methane in very small amounts. t
