bay area's scott budman joins us from san jose to tell us how this man was tracked down. scott? >> reporter: well, raj, officers tell us his fellow college students turned him in because they were would youy -- worried he was trying to get a gun. nicholas o'connor was accused of slooting at the security campuses. he was arrest and while on bail attended classes at utah state university. it was there officers say that some of his fellow students were asked to help him make a gun. >> they were approached and asked to have gun parts sent to their addresses after mr. o'connor bought them anonymously. >> reporter: the students called police in utah and he was detained. >> he came forward and said, we befriended this individual and approached us with strange requests and wanted them to buy gun parts and willing to pay them for that. >> reporter: since making a gun was a violation of his parole, he was brought back to the south bay and sent no bail. >> it was important given what is going on and what is happening at campuses nationwide, it is important to be vigilant when it comes to g

scott budman joins us with the real-time progress report. >> reporter: election officials told us they want more efficient elections and less esi elections. they say so far, it's mostly working. for most part, san mateo county voting places were quieter this year. and less crowded than usual. how did it go? >> pretty good. i think it went veryte couy was of five throughout the state to experiment with what they are calling the voter's choice act. a plan to send all registered voters a mail-in ballot thatthe. >> instead of the 205 polling places that we typically have in a traditional polling place election, we now have 39 centers located throughout the county. >> reporter: faster voting and less of a need for spaces and poll workers on election day. some told us they miss the traditional polling place. >> now i had to drive 25 minutes to come down here, find a parking place. wasn't any fun. as more fun the other way. i miss it. why not leave rural places open? >> reporter: officials told us because of the early mail-in ballot, they can start tabulating earlier. they say they expect voe

scott budman is in san jose with the details on these flyers. >> reporter: good evening. this is one of those postings on west san carlos here in san jose where people say they are very surprised this group is reaching out in this city. this one is small. posted on a board along san jose's busy west santa clara street. it promotes a group called identity europa. >> i think they're stupid. because this is a very diverse city. >> i think it's very diverse city we're in. it's a melting pot of everyone. >> reporter: flyers from the group went up in gilroy, morgan hill and campbell. within days, campbell city leaders took them down. they say any public posting on public property violates the city code. officials told us they also plan to remove the posters for the same reason. >> a very diverse area, so everybody has there opinion. >> they need to get out. i don't see how they're going to find people here. >> there is freedom of speech. people should be able to post anything. even if it's something we disagree with. overall, i don't think a message of hate is something we shou

scott budman. >> reporter: no surprise traffic in these parts on the bridge has gotten worse largely because of tech growth. facebook, one of the fastest growing tech companies is fighting back. bay area traffic near facebook is a mess coming and going. >> i hit traffic and my commute has gone up five minutes just in four months of being here. >> reporter: relief may be on the way. the san mateo transit district says it's planning to work with facebook to ease traffic. partly by adding bus and pedestrian options to the dumbarton bridge. not the plan also called for rebuilding the dumbarton rail bridge which would initially act as a shuttle from newark to the park. >> reporter: redoing the rail bridge originally built in 19 ten would likely cost about a billion dollars. they also say having help from facebook is a big step towards making it happen. >> if this process results in funding being secured that does speed things up quite a bit. we see that we may be able to see this getting built in the near future. >> reporter: other than that they say it's too early in the process to estim
