. >> let's go live there now to santa rosa and scott cohn is joining us. you're in an area where home after home has been destroyed. what more are you seeing this morning? >> reporter: this as you can see is an unfolding situation here. we are looking at still reports according to police of 100 missing persons reports filed. some of that may be because cell service is down, communications are difficult. but ten are confirmed dead and authorities expect that toll to rise because this is very much ongoing. as we look at not just one fire, but several fires. in fact 14 fires that are still burning, two major ones in napa and sonoma counties. but it is continuing to go on. and in addition to the human toll, the death toll, there are also people who are dealing with what you can see here, very large home behind me that is basically gone. it's just a pile of flaming rubble. and that kind of situation repeated as people head to evacuation centers, 24 shelters, four of them filled in sonoma county. and people there are anxious issues about what they have gone thro

let's get right to special correspondent for nbc news scott cohn.g us live from sonoma, california. you try to wrap your head around the sheer size of what is taking place there, it's almost unfathomable. give us a sense of what's on the ground in terms of the fight and what's happening there on in day-to-day basis. >> reporter: so we're on day six of this disaster heading into this day six now. and what they're going to be dealing with today is really a race against the clock. because the forecast is calling for the wind to pick up. you know that the wind is not good for the firefight. it fans the flames. it creates the blowtorch effect that laid waste to this neighborhood, coffee park in santa rosa on sunday. what they'll keep doing is cutting these fire lines so that the fire cannot jump from one set of vegetation to the next. and they need to do that before the wind picks up. it's supposed to get windier as the day goes on into tonight and into tomorrow. so once again they've issued those red flag warnings. that's the worst possible fire conditi

. >> scott cohn, thank you. >>> we're following the latest in the harvey weinstein.bc's correspondent anne thompson has more. >> reporter: another seismic shock in hollywood. angelina jolie and gwyneth paltrow said they too were sexually harassed by weinstein. paltrow had just been fired for the movie and tells that weinstein put his hands on her and suggested they go to the bedroom for massages. i was a kid, petro said she left and told her then boyfriend brad pitt who confronted weinstein. jolie said she chose never to work with him again and warned others when they did. and another explosive story this time in the new yorker, mira sorvino and rosana arquette of many the women said to be sexually hargsed by weinstein including three who said they were raped. any allegations of nonconsensual acts of sex were unequivocally denied by mr. weinstein. rona pharaoh who kibts to nbc news wrote the story. >> uncanny similarities exist between each of these women's stories. they talk about the pretext of a professional meeting that is then moved to a hotel, and a hotel room.

. >>> i want to turn to scott cohn, also reporting from santa rosa this morning. going to be a crucial next few hours there. >> that's right, frances. the diablo devil winds that joe was talking about, are kicking um again. you can't feel it here. but up in the hills, where the fire is raging, the wind speeds are supposed to be higher and higher. that's supposed to continue through at least mid-day. that's a huge test of the little bit of progress that firefighters made yesterday. the tubbs fire, the big fire in sonoma county, is 10% contained, up from yesterday, where it was not contained at al and the winds are supposed to continue through today. then, they died down a little bit. and they come back over the weekend. and so, it's really a constant battle here. in a series of fires that really are now at historic levels, with 23 people dead and thousands of structures burned, it is among the deadliest and the most destructive fires in california history. and that's saying something. >> scott, thank you. >>> back here in the east, the president is pushing his top
