scott goldberg reports from henryville, indiana. >> reporter: the warnings came well before, and in henryville cameras were ready but there was no way to predict an ef4. the second most powerful kind of tornado on a scale of five, with winds as fast as 175-miles-an-hour. >> we just had a huge tornado come through. it made most buildings look like this by bombs. >> is takes you a second to kind of look at it and then feel what those people had to go through. >> we want to encourage folks to come to our shelters. get a warm meal. gate cup of coffee. sit down, take a rest. >> in west liberty kentucky, they don't know how many people are missing. officials are asking everybody who survived to sign in a registry. >> i have my dispawr -- my daughter and my grandchildren. it was pretty tense. >> reporter: nearly 100 of the twisters were part of the system coming at the very beginning of what is considered tornado season. perhaps the most remarkable story in the aftermath is angel babcock, the 20-month-old survived in indiana when someone found her in the field but the rest of her immediate family die

scott goldberg reports. >> reporter: throughout clarks county in southern indiana, the devastation is overwhelming and total. >> once again, mother nature deeding with indiana. >> entire communities, homes, schools, and businesses are gone. >> we lost it. and we're with you. it's not just government. this is their neighbors here to help. >> the friday twisters threatened millions of people from the gulf coast to the great lakes. the national weather service issued nearly 300 tornado warnings on friday, making it one of the worst days in u.s. history. and it wasn't over. thunderstorms rocked georgia this morning, bringing more damage. the twisters struck so quickly and with such force that many barely had time to get away. >> we thought we had 11 minutes and within two seconds it came through and blew the house off the foundation. >> in henrysville it lifted the roof of the school while the students were inside. >> if you walked through my car and through that hallway right there, we were just behind where the debris is. >> all 400 students survived but the school bus didn't. the winds
