what do you think about what's scott gottlieb had to say right there about the response so far?, i don't think the window has closed. there's a lot that has been done and we will continue to do and accelerate. both from the standpoint of the testing that will be available. of course, in the beginning, there were only the cdc tests that were available. right now, we have rapidly commercialized, so that we have five sources now, at least, and maybe more. we have lab corp, quest, mayo clinic, as well as the network from the cdc. so up to maybe 10,000 cases -- excuse me, 10,000 tests per day is now going to be five, six, seven times that. the issue with vaccines is important. it would have been good to have a lot more vaccines available early on. but right now, we have accelerated that extensively. we had about 130,000 doses at first. another 154,000. by the end of july, there should be another 700,000 plus. so one of the differences of this type of an outbreak from others that we had, a, we know the agent. it 17b8isn't like a mystery witv decades ago. two, we have a vaccine that wi

the speed of their response including from the former food and drug administration commissioner scott gottlieb who served under president trump. earlier today he had this tweet that said if we have allowed monkeypox to become an endemic virus in the u.s., which is becoming an increasingly possible outcome, it will be among the most unfortunate public health failures in recent times. now the administration has been touting some of the efforts they have made over the course of the past few weeks that includes shipping out 300,000 doses of this vaccine out to the states. that is simply a fraction of the doses that will be needed. as the cdc estimates there are 1.5 million people eligible for that vaccine. of course doctors are recommending they take two doses. the white house is trying to promote what they've done. you heard jha conceding there is even more that should be coming in the coming weeks. >> and to another public health crisis, the covid-19 pandemic and the president's recent covid diagnosis, what more can you tell us about how he's doing today? >> reporter: well, the presipresident a

scott gottlieb who was trump's fda commissioner, says monkeypox has spread more broadly in the communityuld not be surprised if there are thousands of cases right now. let's bring in cnn's senior medical correspondent, elizabeth cohen. dr. gottlieb's assertions are getting pushback from the cdc? >> earlier today, dr. gottlieb got a pushback from dr. anthony fauci. he said look, the window is not closed. and today, to cnn, dr. walensky, the director of the cdc, saying the same thing. let's take a look at what she told cnn. she says the interview meaning dr. gottlieb's interview, was misinformed and off base. those are pretty strong words. it is true that we have work to do here and internationally and are likely to see more monkeypox cases in the near term, but it's possible to significantly decrease the numbers and contain the current monkeypox outbreak. let's look at things she pointed to that the cdc and the u.s. health officials are doing. she said if you take a look in mid-may, the u.s. had capacity to do only about 6,000 tests per week. by the end of june, that ramped up to 10,000.

scott gottlieb says the window had closed or is about to close to contain monkeypox.mean, i think the window is certainly closing currently. we have over 10,000 cases globally and have been really limited by stagnated testing but i think it's premature to say that it's completely closed. there is a global perspective to consider as well. no country has been able to successfully contain monkeypox really at this time. >> there is a difference, people see monkeypox containment, lack of containment and fresh in their mind is coronavirus and covid. there's a difference in terms of the spread and the timing of how quickly you have to contain this. >> yeah, i mean, a lot of comparisons are being made between covid and monkeypox which are valid, the beginning of covid was to find a test and uncontrolled spread but there are major biological differences. the incubation period which is the time from exposure to when someone is contagious for covid it's three to five days, for monkeypox it's 7 to 14 days. it gives us an -- like a window to maximize contact tracing and quarantine
