phil >> reporter: thank you, andrew let's bring in scott kirby, ceo of united airlines from the uniteday from not only you at the jpmorgan conference but some of your colleagues as well demand is clearly back paint a picture in terms of how crowded the airports and airplanes are right now and what we're likely to see let's say two months from now. >> yeah. phil, thanks for having me this morning. and it is nice that we've started to see an inflection in demand the airports are more crowded than they were though they're still a long ways to go. revenue is down 60% and demand is 50% lower than it was before but we're clearly on the up swing. as more and more people are getting vaccinated, particularly leisure demand is coming back. coming back at almost 100% international borders are still closed my guess is business demand is still six to nine months from its inflection point but it really is encouraging to see and feel like we've turned the corner and are on the road to recovery >> scott, you said yesterday you may have positive cash generation this month. some competitors may be there

we're going to be talking with scott kirby tomorrow morning in a cnbc exclusive interview on squawk box you do not want to miss what he has to say i'm particularly interested in what he said this morning at the jp morgan conference where he said we're going to get through core positive cash growth this month. and they've taken a number of steps to position the airline post-pandemic. when it gets back to a normal environment we'll hear what he has to say about the steps they've taken and his outlook for let's say the rest of the 2021 >> in terms of all these forecasts even if they are vague forecasts are they predicated on just their clarity in the u.s. business or does it also assume some assumptions about the european market? i'm just asking because of the increased lockdowns we've seen in europe and if that could actually throw a wrench into any of these forecasts >> i don't think they're assuming much for europe or asia i think this is predicated on this is what we can see and count onto an extent here domestically whatever comes from europe, let's say miraculously you see the covid
