mayfield where the tower was torn off. when you see these pictures of your home state, scott, i mean, i can't imagine what you're feeling especiallyion that these are small towns a very close-knit community. >> it's hard to see that picture of that building in mayfield. that's the county courthouse, i think. and it's a picture i saw is the one you're looking at. of course, in a lot of towns like this, especially in the county seats in a place like kentucky, those buildings are the most visible and the most memorable in town, right, because they're the historic buildings. often ore nate and have towers or large features on the top that are among the tallest structures in town. when you see those things come down, it's stark. you know, you see something like that your whole life and all of a sudden it's wiped away in the blink of an eye, it's quite startling. of course in mayfield, too, reports of the candle factory having collapsed. obviously a lot of people in there. so that town it's one of the most interesting towns in kentucky. it's in the far west part of the state. it's actually near another town called fancy farm which a lot

mayfield. we just spoke with scott jennings from dawson springs. there's 100 people unaccounted for. 1,000 homes and structures in the state just destroyed. this all started friday night with these storms touching down first in arkansas. they hit a nursing home there. one person died there. the swarm of twisters then tore a path across 200 miles in kentucky. one tornado slams into a family-run candle factory in mayfield. the building was leveled. now, 110 people scheduled to work that shift, it's unclear how many people were in the building at that exact moment that it hit. rescuers crawling over the dead to get to the living. at this point, eight people were confirmed dead. eight unaccounted for. the unimaginable loss there that some had feared is terrible. but maybe not as bad as was feared before. earlier this morning, i spoke to a man whose pharmacy who has been in the family for generations, now lays in ruins. you lost your father not long ago. >> passed away from cancer in february. he was a great guy. we provided a life for me, that i've ben

tornado comes through and takes the entire town down, decimated here in mayfield, here where you grew up. you think about the people, scott, we're both from kentucky and i just -- these are salt of the earth people, right? good people, kind people. that strong sense of community in those small towns that you were talking about. and so it is -- they're fortunate to have each other, but this recovery in dawsons where you grew up here in mayfield, it's going to be a long time. >> i don't know how to even begin to wrap my mind around rebuilding. you think about just under normal circumstances, the building materials and supplies and what it takes to get something built today, there's a lot of wait time in that under normal circumstances and you think about the number of homes and businesses that have been devastated, i think about projecting out into the future, how long will it take to not rebuild one town, but several towns. you're talking about a huge swath and where will people go? as you know on the ground there tonight, it's very cold. it's going to be colder still as we get into the winter here and even the homes that
