. >> scott mclean is tracking developments from istanbul. scott, good morning. there has been so much focus, we've talked a lot about the ceasefire hostage negotiation tunnels, but let's focus in on the humanitarian crisis here and what is unfolding there. obviously a ceasefire would be part of any hostage release deal that could give some relief to civilians who are suffering on the ground. >> reporter: yes, we understand that the broad parameters of any deal would be a pause in fighting would last potentially four or five days. there would be a number of hostages released from gaza in exchange for an unknown number of palestinian prisoners held in israeli jails right now. all of those releases would happen over the course of four or five days. there could potentially be more hostages released if the pause is extended. we don't know the final details, nothing has been finalized, but we've heard that the sticking points are more of the finer points of the logistical parts, rather than anything that represents the core of this actual deal. you played sound there

scott mclean is joining us live with this. since we last spoke, let's go to israel's claims about the hamas tunnel, united nations human rights chief is calling on israel to grant their team access to gaza to investigate this. is that something that is likely to happen and would it settle any of this back and forth in the information war? >> reporter: it might. whether either side would ultimately accept the findings of that type of an investigation, that is another discussion. the israeli relationship with the united nations is perhaps strained at best. any kind of investigation also would not happen very quickly. u.n. human rights chief says it won't go on while bombs still on the ground. and he has asked for access and he has guarantees from both sides but still wanting for a response. on top of that, israelis also say that it could take days maybe even weeks for them to carry out their full operation on the site of the al-shifa hospital. they are under immense pressure to prove the allegations that they have made that ther

scott mclean joining us live from istanbul. scott, so far the underground tunnels that the idf says existed under hospital complex haven't been located and there is no sign of hostages at this point. what can you tell us about this? >> reporter: certainly israelis are under a lot of pressure to prove that the accusations that they have made about this hospital being used for military purposes are in fact true. just to give you one illus illustration, erdogan previously said they were not a terrorist group but yesterday he said it is a terrorist state and turkey will do whatever it can to hold israel in account in international court. so israel at least from outside world perspective needs to show that it had justification in going in to this hospital. you had president biden yesterday saying that there is a hamas command center, headquarters, under the hospital. and he says that that is established. but perhaps he knows something we don't, but based on the publicly available information that the israelis have put out, it is far

. >> cnn's scott mclean is following developments and joins us live from istanbul. good to see you. at last this deal has been struck and approved by the israeli cabinet. so what happens next as these families wait and hope that their loved ones will be released in this initial group? >> yeah, and we don't have the names of the 50 who will be released from gaza, beyond the fact that we know they all hold israeli citizenship. some are also dual nationals. but we do have some news when it comes to the palestinians who will be released. we know there will be 150 of them in the official phase. and the israeli government has published a list of 300 names of palestinian prisoners being held in israeli jails who could be released as part of this, most of them it seems from looking through the list are teenaged boys in their late teens, accused of relatively minor crimes, like throwing stones or damaging a security area. but there are also some, and there are also some women on the list as well, many in their 20s and 30s who are accused of more serious crimes and serving longer prison sente

and scott mclean is live for us in london. good morning. always good to see you. secretary of state antony blinken will be pressing israel to take greater care to avoid civilian casualties to try to easy suffering in gaza and to say according to our reporting that the clock is ticking on global support for israel if they don't do those things. how do you expect the message to be received? >> reporter: yeah, based on past statements we've heard from benjamin netanyahu, probably not very well. netanyahu was asked on monday about civilian casualties and he was very blunt in saying that israel is already doing all that it can to protect civilians and any blame ought to be passed on to hamas from preventing them for being able to evacuate the areas where the military operations are taking place. but the reality is even though the israelis were talking about creating possible safe spaces within gaza, those still do not exist. while they have been telling people to move from the northern part of gaza to the south and central parts, they continue to carry out bombing camp

. >> scott mclean is covering all of this live from istanbul. interesting to see the reaction as far as america is concerned because it did say it had its own intelligence that there was some this command center but also expressing concern about how that is being investigated. >> yeah, so the u.s. says in its intelligence that there is this command center under the hospital. obviously the israelis almost three weeks ago gave this presentation to the media saying that its intelligence shows that there was this sophisticated multi-level tunnel system underneath al-shifa hospital being used by hamas as a command and control center. and you heard president biden there in that clip say that this is a fact. and perhaps president biden knows something that we don't. but at least according to what has been publicly presented, the evidence that has been publicly presented, that it is not a fact. there is nothing that shows at least at this stage anything resembling this kind of sophisticated tunnel system or command and control center under the hospital.

. >> cnn's scott mclean joins us live from istanbul. ott, as day two now is under way, this day two of the truce, are we expecting to see similar scenes today, people being released and much needed aid going into gaza? >> reporter: yeah. we don't have a detailed schedule of what is expected to happen today and precisely when it will happen. but you're right. the expectation is that broadly speaking, today will look something like yesterday with a number of israeli hostages released and then, of course, three times that number of palestinian prisoners released from israeli prisons as well. yesterday after the truce began, 7:00 a.m. local time, it was nynex krushiating hours later that the hostage movement actually began from gaza, and of course the prisoner release began from the israeli side as well. this is expected to go on for the next three days. but as we know, it could be longer than that. for every one day the truce is extended beyond the initial four, israel could get back 10 hostages. the palestinians could see 30 more prisoners

joining us now to discuss this is cnn's scott mclean. so let's begin with this breaking news about 80 ambulances we understand being allowed through the rafah crossing and now even more reports that we're hearing that possibly foreign nationals might be able to leave. this is a huge development. what is the diplomacy going on behind the scenes? >> yeah, that last bit is certainly new. it is not exactly clear how the deal came to pass. surprising that they are allowing any -- excuse me -- any palestinians to cross the border into egypt because egypt has been extremely reluctant to take palestinian refugees figuring that there could be -- if they let a few in, there might be more and more and suddenly the conflict reaches their territory instead. but as you said, these are palestinians who require specific surgeries that simply cannot be done in gaza, so they are being taken to a field hospital which is the first community that you reach in egypt outside of gaza. and what is not clear is whether this will be a sign of things to come, wheth

scott mclean is joining us from istanbul with the latest. good morning. where do the talks in doha stand and what are the barriers to getting this truce extended? >> reporter: yeah, good morning kasie. barriers probably not that big to get this extended for a short period of time. a longer extension though is much more complicated. according to a source familiar with the talks happening in doha, the expectation is that if all goes according to plan today, hamas will likely agree to extend the truce for at least another day to get ten more women and children hostages out, but there are only enough women and children to last another two days. beyond that, we're talking about negotiations for civilian men and israeli soldiers, some of whom by the way are female. hamas says that there have not been discussions thus far about israeli troops releasing israeli troops held hostage right now. it has proposed the possibility of two deals, one a partial deal it is calling to focus just on civilians or another one it is calling a comprehensive deal to also deal with

. >> let's go to scott mclean who is live for us in istanbul.terms of the very latest about the hospital, what they discovered there, which many see as, you know, justification for not just the raid on the hospital, but also the wider raid on gaza. what do we know about what has been discovered? >> yeah, so the u.n. human rights chief says that an investigation frankly is needed because there are competing narratives and especially when it comes to the al-shifa hospital, those narratives don't have all that much in common even when you look at the humanitarian situation on the ground. you had the hospital director doing a phone interview with al jazeera where he described a very desperate situation at the hos hospital, thousands killed, hundreds wounltded and he says e children are starving because there is not enough water to make milk or baby formula. the idf in stark contrast says they are providing enough food, they are providing water to people and they are also providing safe corridors to people to get out of the hospital and move to safer

cnn's scott mclean is covering this live from london. what more you hearing about these ambulances? >> the fact that there are 80 or so ambulances at the border is about the same number of palestinians that we had been told yesterday by the medical director of the al shifa hospital in gaza that would be leaving gaza for egypt. he said there were 81 badly injured palestinians who would be able to -- or would be transported to the rafah border crossing with the understanding or with the plan that they would be able to cross through the rafah border crossing and get medical attention in sheik zuad city, the first community you reach outside of gaza and inside of egypt on the sinai peninsula there. this is obviously significant for the reason that you mentioned, bianca. this would be the very first time that any gazans at all would be let out of the territory since the war began. two israeli citizens were allowed out through the rafah gate. two hostages were allowed out through the rafah gate earlier on in this war. but in terms of palestinians, they have all been trapped under the isra

scott mclean is following the developments and is joining me from istanbul. what are you looking out for in the hours ahead, scott? >> reporter: hey max. it seems like all the parties have a vested interest in the truce being attended, but it seems delicate on the ground. yesterday there was exchanges of fire between hamas and idf soldiers inside of gaza. the israelis say there were two explosives detonated at two separate troop locations and hamas opened fire as well. no serious injuries on the israeli side. hamas tells the story somewhat differently saying this was a field skirmish and that fighters dealt with it. it also says that israel was clearly in violation of this truce and that, look, it is willing to go along with this truce so long as its enemy, israel, is willing to do the same. israel has made quite clear though that it is gearing up for the second phase of this war which is hanging over the heads of thathamas who are pushing foe truce turning into a more permanent ceasefire. the talks to extend this are ongoing as you mentioned in doha. and the

. >> yeah, absolutely, all right, scott mclean in istanbul, thanks so much. >>> i mentioned ten thai and one filipino resident. they're spending they're first morning undergoing medical evaluations. what more can you tell us about the circumstances of their release and why they were in israel to begin with? >> reporter: let's start with why were they in israel? many of those hostages that are thai nationals and the filipino national that we know about as well, all migrant workers to israel, it's reported by cnn that about 20,000 or so thai workers work in the agricultural industry in israel. it is probably the biggest contingent of southeast asian migrant workers. they come from poor parts of thailand, often in farming communities. going to israel and sending those remittances back, it's an important part of their local economies but there's been, obviously, joy and relief from their families for the ones who have been released in the last 24 hours or so. in fact, one story i wanted to share with you, one lady, her mother expressing the tears that she shed when she realized in the vi
