joining me tonight scott paul, president of the alieps for american manufacturing. to have you with us tonight. is this a clear example of how tariffs impact the market? it doesn't take away the free market. but it protects american workers and everybody gets a fair shake. how does this break out? what does the story tell us. >> good to be with you. that's exactly right. tariffs help level the playing field. nothing more, nothing less. we know on a level playing field that u.s. manufacturers and workers, particularly in the tire industry can be competitive in our domestic market. we know people familiar with a lot of the american brands. however, when tire dealers are stocking shelves with tires from china that are sometimes priced below the cost of the raw materials and the labor that goes into it, you add on government subsidies from the chinese government in the form of oh currency manipulation, energy subsidies, lax environmental enforcement and the result is a lot of chinese tires, as you indicated, downward pressure on wages for workers and potentially layoffs.
