her husband, scott peterson, was eventually convicted of killing her. but there are big difference between those past cases and the search for magdalena. both laci peterson and sierra lamar disappeared under suspicious circumstances. peterson was pregnant and because she vanished on christmas, authorites and family suspected foul play from the start. lamar was last seen at a bus stop on her way to school and it seems unlikely she would have disappeared of her own free will. magdalena on the other hand, has so far vanished without a trace and while authorities can't rule it out, there's also no evidence of foul play. that lack of information seems to have left the search without a clear motivation to continue a large scale effort. also, both peterson and lamar were well known in their respective communities. they had family and friends who actively kept the searches going. according to her family, magdalinea was new to the bay area. she had few friends and no family nearby. her parents, who live in boston, are in marin trying to help with the search effor
