let's talk quickly with our friend polls ter scott rasmussen. best in the country.umbers on this? the romney attack on bain capital and the attack on business. you know, entrepreneurs can't survive unless government backs them up. what do the numbers tell us? >> first, the attacks on bain capital and mitt romney have had an impact. 41% say romney's business record is raising the vote against him up 7 points from earlier in the year. people trust him more on the economy. people believe businessmen seeking their own profit, trying to grow their own company will do more to create jobs than policy makers. when we asked the specific question who creates more jobs, what's the better way to go, venture capital companies or government programs, by a 57-27 margin people say it's venture capitals that create jobs. >> that should help romney. does he have to make a special connection or what? >> it is helping romney a little bit already. the perception is that president obama wants to raise spending and that would hurt the economy. people don't trust politicians. only 36% thin

here now is ace pollster scott rasmussen. all, what do the polling numbers show on the obama tax plan? do people want to extend the bush tax cuts or not? >> people overall want to extend the bush tax cuts. no doubt about that. people think if you cut taxes it's good for the km i, if you raise taxes it's bad for the economy. do you want to is raise them just for people makingless than $250,000 a year. tret my much a toss-up. if you're trying to raise taxes, that's about as good ground you're going to find. >> do middle class people fear if the rich, so-called rich, get taxed that they, the middle class, are next to get taxed? >> absolutely. in fact, that's the reason, generic idea of taxing the wealthy sounds good, and because most think the wealthy pay a smaller share of their income than the middle class. but if you say do you want a candidate who favors tax hikes for the rich they get skiddish. they're not sure what a candidate will classify as rich. and when you look at state, local, federal, income taxes, everything, nobo

scott rasmussen, independent pollster, author of the book, the people's money. with michael reagan, chairman of the reagan group. wow, what a contrast between, you know, your father, michael, talking about your, one's natural, god-given optimism and your poll, scott, talking about how americans aren't feeling that. at least when it comes to their children and their futures. let me start with you, scott. what do you believe is behind the poll? >> there are a couple of things. first let's put it in context. in the great depression, i wasn't polling back then but 37% thought next generation would be better off. so this 14% is horrific by comparison. the big part is the unrelenting troubled economy. we're at a point only 40%. four out of 10 americans, think the economy will get stronger five years from today. that too is the lowest level of optimism ever recorded. they don't think it makes much difference who wins the presidential election in terms of help the economy. there is a deep-seeded pessimism setting in. megyn: back in the great depression they knew it was

among those who do vote which is the likely voter poll, scott rasmussen today has it at 47-44 romney. now, when 44% of the people are voting for obama and even in some of these swing states as much as 47% are, that means he's going to lose the state. let me play a game with the people at home watching this. if you are going to be married to the same guy next year, same person next year, raise your hand. okay. hands down. undecided? what does it say when you're undecided about that? i think that whenever you have an undecided voter they are predisposed to vote against the incumbent. >> i think that's logical. >> that's one other thing which you also alluded to. all of these polls quote african-american turnout at 13 or 14%. it was 14 in '08, it was 11 in '04. when you ask voters are you likely to vote, how much are you following the election, how interested are you, the blacks are way down, way below whites on this, and i think they'll turn out 11%. the historic norm. so i think all these polls are two points wrong. >> all right. now, the electoral college, the key to this is the repub

scott rasmussen says that number could kline. its effect live come close to doubling.on here? >> there's a partisan difference. the number of republicans who say that they have a poorer opinion in terms of whether the court's doing their job tripled from 14% to 43%. the number of unaffiliated voters with a poor opinion of the court doubled to 30% since the ruling. democrats have gone the other way, much happier with the court than they were beforehand. all this is in response to the fact that people thought they had the right side of the argument. and what we saw is the supreme court can declare a law constitutional. they can't make it popular or make people like it. >> where do people like this go. if they lose faith in our institution and in politicians in congress, in the president, his numbers are down, representatives, congressmen's numbers are down, the supreme court's numbers are down. what does that say about the mood of the electorate. >> only 22% of voters nationwide believe our government today has the consent to govern. july 4th, 1776 they said that was the

here now scott rasmussen, founder and president. you have anything concrete yet, scott, that you can tell us? actual data for how this will play? >> well, right now we know that 52% of voters nationwide would like to see the health care law repealed. that's numbers haven't changed since the bill was passed more than two years ago. we know enthusiasm among conservatives is way up. it was up before the ruling. it just went into the stratosphere with the rule. we don't know if that will be maintained or not. right now mitt romney up by two points in the daily presidential tracking poll. we can go on and on about the health care law and all the numbers with it. there is a simple truth to this election. the primary issue is still the economy. if the health care law is tied into the debate over the economy it's going to hurt the president. if it's treated as a diversion from it, well, i think the president would rather talk about just about anything other than the economic numbers. >> that's the one thing. it was a diversion. we have a jo
